Governor declares state of emergency
Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency for South Carolina earlier today and advised all residents to use the weekend to prepare for the possibility of Tropical Storm Florence’s becoming a major hurricane before making landfall next week.
This is a good time to remove dead limbs from trees and put away yard items that could be affected by strong winds and heavy rain.
People should also be certain to have adequate food, water, disposable utensils, batteries and medications on hand.
People who need electricity for health concerns should plan now what they will do if the power goes off and they are confined to their home by fallen trees or standing water.
In the past, residents of Chesterfield County have been affected primarily by downed trees, power outages and localized flooding.
More information about Florence will be posted to Breaking News as the storm moves closer to land.
