COVID-19 case confirmed of person working in county

A person working in Chesterfield County has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Tami Kou, Director of Corporate Communications for A.O. Smith, has confirmed an employee of the McBee plant has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Kou said the employee worked in a remote area of the plant, and the plant was immediately closed for deep cleaning and disinfection.

“We’re following all the recommendations and guidance of the CDC to help ensure the health and safety of all our employees. Additionally, we’ve been in contact with the local health department to ensure that we’re taking every necessary precaution, and they confirmed that we are,” said Kou.

Operations at the plant resumed at noon Friday, March 20.

Kou added the employee is doing fine, and the other employees who have been in direct contact with him continue to be free of any symptoms and will remain quarantined and away from work for the next couple of weeks.

The McBee plant of A.O. Smith employs about 500 people and is located on U.S. 1 about one mile northeast of the town.

More information will be posted as details become available.
