Man arrested in brother’s death
A Pageland man died April 19 after falling from a moving vehicle, resulting in the arrest of his brother, Mario Hernandez, on charges of failure to render aid because he didn’t take the victim to a medical facility.
According to a press release from the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel were dispatched to 1988 Dewitt Lowery Road near Pageland on April 19 in reference to an unresponsive Hispanic male, who was later identified as Javier Luna Hernandez.
The ensuing investigation revealed the Hernandez brothers were traveling in a vehicle when Javier fell out of the automobile, which Mario was driving. Mario is then accused of picking Javier up out of the roadway and taking him home, as opposed to taking him to a medical facility to receive immediate attention for his injuries. Javier is believed to have died hours later due to not receiving proper treatment.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol, along with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Crime Scene Unit assisted with the investigation.
Mario Hernandez is charged with failure to render aid and is being held in the Chesterfield County Detention Center.
