Gross taken into custody

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office has just announced James Malique Gross was taken into custody yesterday in Fayetteville, N.C., after turning himself in because of a homicide warrant from April 2020.

The warrant was for the homicide of Anthony Dewayne Johnson, which occurred on Harris Road in the Cheraw area of Chesterfield County on March 24, 2020.

Gross is currently in the Cumberland County (N.C.) Detention Center with no bond. He is awaiting an extradition hearing in Fayetteville.

If Gross waives extradition, he will be transported to Chesterfield County to face these charges.

If Gross fights extradition, a Governors Warrant will be issued for his return.
