Thomas Jackson ‘Jack’ Baker

CHERAW – Thomas Jackson “Jack” Baker, 79, died Tuesday, December 22, 2020. Born in Monroe, NC, he was the son of the late Thomas Carroll and Evelyn Gregory Baker. Jack was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cheraw and a charter member of the Rotary Club of Cheraw. He was the owner/operator of Baker’s Motel for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Sloan Ingram Baker, of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Kimball Baker of Murrells Inlet, SC, and grandchildren, Hunter Baker, Ingram Baker and Sydney Baker.

He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Watt Baker, and his parents listed above.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Luther ‘Farrell’ Chalflinch

Luther “Farrell” Chalflinch, 78, went to be with his Lord, Monday, December 21, 2020, at his home.

He was born November 18, 1942, in Moore County, NC, son of J.R. Chalflinch and Gertrude Brown Chalflinch.

Farrell was a man that loved the Lord, his church and his church family. He enjoyed making people laugh, no matter how he felt, he was always smiling and picking on his family in good humor. When able he enjoyed fishing and NASCAR; or helping his wife crack pecans and peel pears in preparing for Christmas gifts. He will leave a void in his family and friends lives.

The family held a visitation, Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Faith Fellowship Church, 5015 Hatcher Hill Road, Wallace, SC, 29596, from 1:00-2:00 PM with the Funeral starting at 2:00 PM. Rev. Richard Rainwater, Rev. Michael Poindexter and Rev. Brantley Moore officiated.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Cohoon Chalflinch of the home; daughters, Velena Chalflinch of Wallace, SC and Kathleen Seawell (Gary) of Carthage; sons, Michael Broadwater (Anne) of Wallace, SC and Keith Broadwater (Tammy) of Waynesville, NC; brothers, Sammy Chalflinch of Goodview, VA and Jimmy Chalflinch of Carthage; sisters Carol Sweet and Wilma McNeil both of Robbins and Mae Moore of Troy: thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Katina ‘Tina’ Renee McElveen

WALLACE – Katina “Tina” Renee McElveen, 44, died Sunday, December 20, 2020. Born in Charlotte, NC she was the daughter of Gary Allen and Shirley Ann White McElveen both of Wallace, SC. She enjoyed crafts, going to renaissance fairs, car shows, riding motorcycles, playing board games and spending time with family. She was fond of her four-legged friends Bella and Salem.

Surviving is her daughter, Taylor McElveen of Goose Creek, SC, her parents listed above, her biological mother, Donna Hatmaker of Augusta, GA, and a sister, Jessica Jones of Augusta, GA.

The family received friends 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A memorial service was held 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

Margaret Norton Mathis

CHERAW – Mrs. Margaret Norton Mathis, age 98, entered into rest on Monday, December 21, 2020. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 27, 2020 at North Cheraw Baptist Church by the Honorable Rep. Rev. Richie Yow and Rev. Mike Williams. A private burial followed in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family greeted friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

Mrs. Mathis was born September 15, 1922 in Hamlet, NC a daughter of the late Henry Lee and Mattie Smith Norton. She was a retired employee of Stanley Tools and a former employee of Sacony Mills. Mrs. Mathis was also served as an attendant / receptionist with Norton Funeral Home of Cheraw for many years. She was also a faithful charter member of North Cheraw Baptist Church where she nurtured many close friendships through the years. Mrs. Mathis will be fondly remembered as a lady of faith and family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mathis was also preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Mathis; brother, Hubert Norton; and sisters, Catherine Quick, Edna Spivey, Bernice Boyles, and Esther Fillimon.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Pamela ‘Susie’ Cagle Pat

Mt. CROGHAN – Mrs. Pamela “Susie” Cagle Pate, 57, of Mt. Croghan, SC passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at her home. Mrs. Pamela “Susie” Cagle Pate was born on October 26, 1963 in Pageland, South Carolina to the late Columbus Cagle and Lillie Ann Catledge. She was preceded in death by her brother, Timothy Lee Cagle and sisters, Elizabeth Ann Cagle Deason and Christina Cagle. Mrs. Pate was a selfless person that was a mother to all and always loved to help everyone around her. She loved family gatherings, especially during her favorite time of year, Easter. She loved to have Easter Egg Hunts for all of her children and grandchildren. Pamela liked spending time with her family and listening to country music. Mrs. Pate is survived by her husband, Timothy Pate of Mt. Croghan, SC; sons, Jeff Pate (Christina Kivett) and Michael Lee Pate both of Mt. Croghan, SC; brother, Johnny Ray Cagle (Heather) of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters, Sandra Kay Cagle of Pageland, SC and Bonnie Faye Cagle of Myrtle Beach, SC and grandchildren, Bailey Pate, Conner Pate, Levi Pate and Caydence Proffitt. Friends may stop by the home of Mrs. Pamela Cagle Pate on Sunday, December 27, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM to pay their respects to the family. The home address is 843 Sutton Road, Mt. Jimmie Attaway Rivers

RUBY – Mr. Jimmie Attaway Rivers, age 89, went home to be with his Lord and was reunited with his beloved wife, Fanell on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Due to the continued COVID-19 risk, the family held a Private Family Graveside Service at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Dewayne Evans officiating.

The services were streamed live on the Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Facebook Page beginning at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 30, 2020.

Mr. Rivers was born September 15, 1931 in the Zoar Community of Chesterfield County, SC a son of the late Louis H. and Dora Parker Rivers. He was a graduate of Mt. Croghan High School and was a life-long farmer. Mr. Rivers was a retired employee of West Knitting of Wadesboro, and a former employee of Delta Mills, and Cheraw Dyeing and Finishing. A faithful member of Elizabeth Baptist Church for over 70 years, Attaway served his Lord and the church as a Deacon, former Sunday school superintendent, and taught the couples Sunday school class along with his late wife, Fanell for many years. He enjoyed fishing, growing large gardens each year to gift others with his vegetables, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rivers was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Fanell Pigg Rivers; and brother, Louis Davis Rivers.

Survivors include his children, Jimmie (Michelle) Rivers of Ruby, SC, Scott (Dale) Rivers of Wadesboro, NC; grandchildren, Jonathan Rivers, Megan (Ryan) Stegall both of Ruby, SC, Mary Kait Rivers (Aaron) Parker, Benjamin (Alexandra Irvin) Rivers both of Wadesboro, NC; great-grandchildren, Emma and Elliott Stegall, and Eli Parker.

James ‘Jim’ Lloyd Sadler

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. James “Jim” Lloyd Sadler, age 78, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Sadler was born June 28, 1942 in Scranton, NC a son of the late Raymond and Viola Sawyer Sadler. He was a retired employee of Capital Structures and worked for many years as a self-employed electrician. Jim enjoyed attending St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Cheraw. His hobbies included bowling, playing chess, fishing, and shooting pool. He also enjoyed raising animals on his farm.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sadler was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nicah Sadler Shaughnessy; brothers, Allen Sadler, Otis Sadler; and sister, Rachel Sadler.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 32 years, Conchita Suson Sadler of the home; children, Rodney Sadler, Troy Sadler, Michael Sadler, and J.B. Sadler; step-children, Annabelle McNeil, Butch Suson, Clint Suson, Mark Suson, and Tina Suson; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Marie Sawyer Osborne, Nancy Kirkley, and Virginia McQuaye; brother, Walter Sadler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Amelia (Amy) Claire Smith

GREENVILLE – Amelia (Amy) Claire Smith, 57, passed away peacefully Saturday December 19,2020. Born in McRae, GA May 20, 1963 she was the beloved daughter of the late Roy Lee Smith, Sr and Dorothy Grimsley Smith. She was raised in Cheraw, SC where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. Amy was a devoted member of the church where she enjoyed serving in Children Ministries, assisting with the annual barbeque, and many other areas of the church.  For many years, Amy worked at B.C. Moores and Sons in Cheraw before moving to Greenville, SC where she enjoyed working at Hobby Lobby. Amy enjoyed spending time with her friends, family, and watching the Clemson Tigers play.

Amy will be lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters Roy Lee Smith Jr. (Donna) of Six Mile, SC, Leland Alan Smith (Vickie) of Aiken, SC, Margery Corinne Smith of Greenville, SC, and Dorothy Marie Smith of Greenville, SC, nieces and nephews Lauren Smith Ammermann (Taylor), Megan Cassidy Smith Ledbetter (Jeremiah), Savannah Lee Smith, Joel Alan Smith, and Ashley Claire Smith, great nieces and nephews Lily Grace Ledbetter, Caleb James Ledbetter, and Mims Brett Ammermann.

A graveside service was held 2:00 PM, Monday, December 28, 2020 in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens, Cheraw, SC. The Family received friends following the service.

William L. ‘Billy’ Wicker

CHERAW – William L. “Billy” Wicker, 91, died Monday, December 21, 2020. Born in Bennettsville, SC he was a son of the late William Roland and Donnie Bennett Wicker. He was retired from the United States Postal Service with 34 years of service. Billy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cheraw, where he served on many committees including United Methodist Men. He was also a charter member of the Cheraw Rescue Squad. Billy was a Past Master and Treasurer of Cheraw Masonic Lodge #15, he was a Shriner and a York Rite Mason of the Cheraw Chapter and Commandry of the Lancaster Lodge. He was a veteran of both the US Navy and US Army where he served as an Airborne Ranger during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking in his spare time.

He is survived by his sons, James Gregory Wicker of Cheraw, SC, and William F. (Deborah) Wicker, of Florence, SC, daughters, Dana Wicker (M. Kent) Walker of Jonesborough, TN, Susanne “Susie” W. (Andy) Ingram of Cheraw, SC, a sister, Mabel (Gene) Brown, of Myrtle Beach, SC, grandchildren, Matthew Wicker, Jason (Sonia) Wicker, Jordan (Maryum) Wicker, Morgan L. Walker, Sara K. Ingram, Kelley S. Ingram, and Georgia N. Walker, great grandchildren, Mila Wicker, Eesa Wicker, many nieces, nephews and loving extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara M. Wicker, his parents listed above and a sister, Ellen Griggs.

The family will hold a private graveside service.
