Ronland Laverne Barlow

LOCUST, N.C. – Mr. Ronland Laverne Barlow, 70, died on Monday, March 1, 2021. Born, April 4, 1950 in Clearwater, FL he was a son of the late Curtis and Leejay Roscoe Barlow. Ronland loved the outdoors as well as fishing and spending time with his family. He also loved his coffee.

Along with his parents, listed above, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Emily Rae Paul; brother, Richard Barlow; and sisters, Angela Wix and Patsy Threkeld.

Ronland leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons, Ronald Mitchell Barlow and Clinton “Porky” Barlow (Jade Coble) both of Wallace; a daughter, Brandy Lynn Harrington (Purcell) of Wallace, SC; sisters, Wanda Eudy (John) of Locust, NC and Saundra Shaw (Mitchell “PeeWee) of Wallace, SC; grandchildren, Douglas Paul, Jordan Paul, Lindan Barlow, Ranebow Trinity, all of Wallace, SC, Ryan Barlow of McColl, SC and Mason Barlow of Baden, NC; two children of the heart, Kristie Wetherington and Matt Tripp of NC; his best friend and companion, his dog, Rocky; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Kiser Funeral Home. The family received friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Funeral Home prior to the service.

DeWayne Lucas Crowley

PATRICK – Mr. DeWayne Lucas Crowley, age 71, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the Agape Hospice House of Columbia. Graveside services were held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Julian Cato with the eulogy being delivered by his son, Michael Crowley. The family greeted friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Crowley was born May 29, 1949 in Patrick, SC a son of the late Bennie and Viola Gulledge Crowley. He was a retired employee of Sonoco Industries with 40 years of service. An avid outdoorsman, DeWayne enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, and spending time in nature. He also enjoyed playing golf and watching sports. Of all things that brought him enjoyment, spending time with his grandchildren was the joy of his life.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Jewell R. Crowley of the home; children, Crystal (Clifton) Mangum of Chesterfield, SC, Michael (Serena) Crowley of Columbia, SC, and Wesley Crowley of Lugoff, SC; grandchildren, Caston Mangum, and Zoey Mangum; brothers, Leverne Crowley, and Timothy Crowley both of Patrick, SC; sister, Sue Thompson of Salisbury, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Flowers are welcomed, but for those wishing to make a memorial donation, the family suggests memorials be made to the Agape Columbia Hospice House, 141 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, SC 29210.

The family would like to express a special Thank You to the physicians and staff at the Agape Hospice House of Columbia for their exceptional love and care shown to Mr. Crowley and his family.

Active pallbearers were Nathan Thompson, Micah Thompson, Caleb Thompson, Ben Crowley, Paul Wizikowski, and Nathan Gardner.

Martha Gayle Melton Grant

Mrs. Martha Gayle Melton Grant, 68, died on Saturday, March 6, 2021.  Born, October 5, 1952 in Rock Hill, SC she was a daughter of the late Ular and Martha Steen Melton.  Gayle was a member of Westfield Creek Baptist Church in Cheraw and was a personal caregiver.

Along with her parents, listed above, she was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Chapman.

Gayle leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Douglas Grant of the home; a son, Jimmy Grant (Amy Stroud) of Cheraw, SC; a daughter, Hope Castor of the home; her brother, Eddie Melton of Cheraw, SC; a sister, Wanda Dixon of Cheraw, SC and five grandchildren, Brittany Grant, Allie Chavis (Cody), Sarah Castor, Carson Castor and Ciera Grant.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Westfield Creek Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC. Burial will follow at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Lee Green

CHERAW – Mr. Charles “Chuck” Lee Green, 58, died on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Born, March 24, 1962 in Cheraw, SC he was the son of William Nelson Green, Jr. and the late Madge Jordan Green Simpson. Charles worked as an electrician at Schaeffler in Cheraw.  He enjoyed motorcycles, street hot rods, and hunting. Charles was also an avid UNC Tarheels and Dallas Cowboys fan.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Madge Jordan Green Simpson.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter, Rebecca S. Woods of Chesterfield, SC; his father, William Nelson Green, Jr. of Wallace, SC; a brother, Ricky Green of Patrick, SC; his best friend, Ken Creech of Cheraw, SC; and his girlfriend, Tracy Crawford.

A visitation was held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Kiser Funeral Home.

Charlie Franklin Riley

WALLACE – Mr. Charlie Franklin Riley, 53, died on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Born on August 5, 1966 in Akin, SC he was a son of the late William T. “Bill” and Myrtle Freeman Riley. He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing Lynyrd Skynyrd, fishing, and Harley Davidsons. He also loved spending time with his grandkids.

Along with his parents, listed above, Charlie was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Riley.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Rene Riley; a son, David Haas; a daughter, Aleshia Riley; brothers, Tom Riley and wife May and Joe Riley; a sister, Nikki Fisher; grandchildren, Samantha Roscoe, Daniel Klapp and Khloe Simmons; and nieces, Alexis Fisher, Allison Fisher and Alyssa Fisher.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Vilma Susan Moos Rohde

HAMLET, N.C. – Mrs. Vilma Susan Moos Rohde, 80, died Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Born August 31, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Jacob John and Martha Irons Moos. She was a member of Cordova United Methodist Church in Hamlet, NC, and enjoyed crocheting, quilting and reading Christian books. She also loved the beach, camping and amusement parks. Most of all, Vilma was a loving mother, and grandmother.

Along with her parents, listed above, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Lee Rohde, Sr.; a son, John Jacob Rohde; a brother, Mike Moos; and sisters, Christina Moos Ainsworth and Susan Bleinstein.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, David Rohde, Jr. (Michelle) of Cheraw, SC, Michael Rohde of Bristol, PA, Dennis Rohde of Hamlet, NC; daughters, Catherine Rohde Moran (Mike) and Martha Rohde Weisser (Joe) both of Levittown, PA; brothers, Jake Moos (Deborah) of Opelika, AL; Paul Moos and Mark Moos both of Hamlet, NC; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Janie Hopkins Kirkley Taylor

CHERAW – Mrs. Janie Hopkins Kirkley Taylor, 96, entered her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, March 2, 2021.  Born, October 12, 1924 in Cheraw, SC, Janie was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C.Z. Hopkins, Sr.  She attended Cheraw High School and Wingate Jr. College.  Janie retired from J.P. Stevens and loved to cook and plan meals for her family.  She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cheraw.

Janie was the widow of the late Robert I. Kirkley and the late Col. James O. Taylor, Jr.  She was also preceded in death by her father, Charlie Z. Hopkins and Rilla Thompson Hopkins; her sisters, Irene H. West, Lily Maude Larimore, Josephine Gates Coates; brothers, C. Z. Hopkins, Jr., James T. Hopkins and Bryant Hopkins.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Lisa Kirkley Hewitte; grandson, Steven C. Hewitte and fiancé, Mandy Hewitte; a great granddaughter, Chloe and former son-in-law, Mark Hewitte.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church of Cheraw. Burial followed at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw. A visitation was held from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
