Mask requirement back on school buses
State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman directed all school superintendents that they will enforce the Centers for Disease Control’s Order to require face coverings on school buses beginning Aug. 30.
The measure is designed to mitigate COVID-19 transmission and keep K-12 public schools open and operating as safely as possible,
“To facilitate adherence to the CDC Order, the SCDE will equip all state-owned school buses with an adequate supply of face coverings that meet CDC Order requirements,” wrote Spearman in an Aug. 26 memorandum. “If a student boards a bus without a face covering, bus drivers should offer the student a face covering. However, no student should be denied transportation for failing to adhere to the CDC Order.”
A driver does not need to wear a mask if the driver is the only person on the bus.
