PAGELAND – James Thomas Bracey, 71, died Sunday, October 17, 2021. Graveside service was held, Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 1PM from the Mt. Harmon Missionary Baptist Church, Pageland, SC. He was born September 21, 1950 in Pageland, SC to the late Thomas T. Bracey and Juanita Wilson Bracey. ‘Debbie Lynn ‘Sack” Bridges

CHERAW – Mrs. Debbie Lynn “Sack” Bridges, age 63, entered into rest on Sunday, October 24, 2021. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 4:00 PM from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Rev. Yvonne Hechler. The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Due to COVID-19 regulations, our staff is committed to taking care of our guests and families that we serve. We also ask all guests and family members attending visitations and services to please continue social distancing, and face coverings are strongly encouraged.

Mrs. Bridges was born August 4, 1958 in San Antonio, TX a daughter of the late Odis and Betty Cook Bridges. Debbie was a graduate of Cheraw High School; as well as a retiree of Carolina Canners after 18 years of service. She enjoyed talking on the phone, playing cards, fishing, and karaoke. Above all else, Mrs. Bridges loved the time she spent with her friends and family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bridges was also preceded in death by her brother, David Bridges; and her grandmother, Eloise Cook.

Survivors include her wife, Gail Usher of the home; brother, Roger (Millie) Bridges of Niceville, FL; sister, Tammy (Anthony) DiMascio of Gaffney, SC; step-children, Olivia Crawley of Cheraw, SC, Daniel Usher of Hartsville, SC; aunts, Bobbi Stevens of Wadesboro, NC, Dorris Marsh of Ludowici, GA, Christine Thompson of Mt. Gilead, NC; sister-in-law, Joye Bridges of Chesterfield, SC; nieces and special caretakers, Donna Wallace of Cheraw, SC, Danielle Brown of Cheraw, SC; nieces and nephew, Kristen, Kim, and Johnny; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and daughter of the heart, Mary-Elizabeth Hudson of Cheraw, SC.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Debbie’s dear friend and nurse, Beverly Vaughn; the entire staff of Regency SouthernCare Hospice of Chesterfield; and her special caregiver Becky Houghlan for the excellent love and care shown to Mrs. Bridges and her family.

Billy Ray Curtis Sr.

CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Billy Ray Curtis, Sr., age 78, entered into rest on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 24, 2021 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Jason Pope and Brent Taylor with burial following in the David’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Curtis was born March 16, 1943 in Greensboro, NC a son of the late Gary Franklin “Jack” and Rebecca Eddins Curtis. He was a retired employee of Duff – Norton and a member of David’s Grove Baptist Church. Billy Ray will be fondly remembered as a man who never met a stranger and lived life to the fullest.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Curtis was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Wright Curtis; brother, Gary Wayne “Sam” Curtis; sisters, Jean Curtis Mann, Pat Curtis Gordon, and Sandra Curtis Squires; great granddaughter, Alaina Brooke Quick; and daughter-in-law, Teresa Boan Curtis.

Survivors include his children, Billy Ray “Bee” Curtis, Jr. of Chesterfield, SC, Deanna Suits (Jeff) Chilton of Little River, SC, and Timothy Vance Suits of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Brooklyn Curtis Quick, Samantha (Chris) Crowley, Zachary (Lindsey) Chilton, and Dylan Suits; 7 great grandchildren; beloved companion & caregiver of nearly 30 years, Betty Melton Short; sister, Cheryl Curtis (Stan) Crawford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmy ‘Jap’ Leviner, Jr.,

WALLACE – Mr. Jimmy “Jap” Leviner, Jr., 78, died on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at his home. Born December 29, 1942, in Marlboro County, SC, he was a son of the late Jimmy Leviner, Sr. and the late Lucy Mae Rainwater Leviner. Jap worked as a welder and pipe fitter in the construction industry for many years. He liked watching NASCAR Racing and Clemson Football and he loved cutting grass and also loved his tractors and lawnmowers. He enjoyed riding in, “Big Red”, his 1967 Ford, wearing his cowboy hat proudly. Jap also loved music, especially country music. Jap was a kind man and loved Christmas time especially wearing his Red Christmas Hat. He enjoyed dancing as well as drinking a cold Keystone Light. He also loved his wife dearly, often bringing her in fresh cut flowers from their yard for her to enjoy.

Along with his parents, listed above, Jap was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ray “Bill” Leviner; and a sister, Mildred Leviner Jackson.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of many years, Barbara Creech Leviner of the home; daughters, Sherry Leviner Webster and husband, Scotty of Cheraw, SC and Sheila Leviner Funderburk and husband, Wyatt of Cheraw, SC; a sister, Faye Leviner Perdue of Wallace, SC; and granddaughters, Catherine Wall Funderburk and Savannah Sims Funderburk.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC. Burial followed at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.

Carolyn Smith Poston

CHERAW – Carolyn Smith Poston, 80, passed away on October 18, 2021, after battling an illness. Mrs. Poston was born on April 3, 1941, to the late Vergie and Robert Smith and was the fifth of eight children. Mrs. Poston was known for her caring heart, love of people, and her style. She worked at Cheraw Healthcare for 38 years as administration coordinator, staying on top of everything that needed to be done in the office and befriending everyone who crossed her path. She attended Faith Fellowship Church in Wallace, SC, for 14 years. Her pastimes included gardening, birdwatching, writing, and spending time with her granddaughters.

Mrs. Poston was preceded in death by her parents listed above, brother, James Smith, brother, Bobby Smith, and an infant brother.

Surviving are her son, Jamie (Terri) Poston of Wallace, daughter, Teresa Poston (Wilbur) Nobles of Cheraw, sister, Evelyn Smith Thomas of Cheraw, brothers J.C. (Wilma) Smith of Wallace, Billy (Lynn) Smith of Cheraw, Ted (Cantey) Smith of Chatsworth, Georgia, granddaughters, Eve and Dori Nobles of Cheraw, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Faith Fellowship Church, Wallace, SC.

A funeral service followed at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Faith Fellowship Church, Wallace, SC.

Burial was in Oak Grove United Methodist Church cemetery, Wallace, SC.

Eunice Turnage Thurman

CHERAW – Mrs. Eunice Turnage Thurman, age 82, entered into rest on Friday, October 22, 2021. Graveside services were held on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Ruby Cemetery by Pastor Dr. Steve West.

Mrs. Thurman was born September 27, 1939 in Marlboro County, SC a daughter of the late James Turnage and Sarah Adams. She was a retired employee of Delta Mills with over 20 years of service. Mrs. Thurman was a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church for over 50 years. Eunice enjoyed working outdoors, tending to her flowers, and watching old classic movies. Most of all, Mrs. Thurman loved spending quality time with her great-grand baby, Harper.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thurman was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Thurman; son, Dennis Thurman; and sisters, Anita Berry, and Evelyn Turnage.

Survivors include her son, Michael Thurman of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Rylie Thurman of Cheraw, SC; Cooper Thurman of Cheraw, SC, Haigan (Justin) Gandy of Manning, SC, Dawson Hatcher of Cheraw, SC; great-grandchild, Harper Driggers of Cheraw, SC; sister, Dorothy Walker of Highpoint, NC; niece, Emily (Jeff) Rose of High Rock Lake, NC; and great-nephews, Justin and Jordan Rose both of High Rock Lake, NC.
