Fatal auto accidents in Pageland area
Two fatal automobile accidents have occurred in the Pageland area in the last few days.
A single-vehicle accident took place last night about 11:49 p.m. on S. Pearl St. near Tory Road, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway with the S.C. Highway Patrol. Ridgeway said the driver was attempting to elude law enforcement when he ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree. He was transported to Atrium Health in Monroe. The passenger, identified by Chesterfield County Coroner Kip Kiser as 28-year-old Ashley McLendon of Pageland, was deceased and had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Another traffic fatality occurred Thursday about 11 a.m. on Highway 601 at Dove Sutton Road, about a mile north of Pageland and involved four vehicles, according to Master Trooper Gary Miller with the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Miller said a driver was at the stop sign on Dove Sutton Road and attempted to make a left turn onto 601 when her car was struck by a tractor-trailer that was traveling south on 601. The impact caused the Hyundai to travel into the north-bound lane of 601, where it was struck by an SUV. The driver of the Hyundai, identified by Chesterfield County Coroner Kip Kiser as 31-year-old Katie Elizabeth Holmes of Pageland, was entrapped and fatally injured. The fourth vehicle was struck by debris from the collision. There were no other injuries in the accident.
Both accidents are under investigation.
