School board chair resigns

The Chesterfield County School Board unanimously accepted the resignation of board chair Wesley Miles at Monday night’s meeting in order for him to accept the position of director of maintenance for the district. The resignation is effective immediately. Under South Carolina law, it is a conflict of interest for a public employee to sit on the oversight entity for his or her employer.

Miles, a Jefferson resident who has represented District 3 for 14 years, has extensive experience in maintenance management, including a tenure as public works director for the towns of Pageland and Hartsville.

Vice Chair Darin Coleman has assumed the duties of acting chair while election for chair is set for the Feb. 14 board meeting at McBee High School.
