Vick elected school board chair

The Chesterfield County School Board unanimously elected District 4 trustee Chad Vick as board chair at Monday night’s meeting. He will remain in that position until January when the terms of all the board officers expire. Vick has served on the board for 18 years, including a previous four-year stint as chair.

Vice chair Darin Coleman of District 2 had been serving as acting chair since Jan. 10 when the board unanimously accepted the resignation of then board chair Wesley Miles of District 3 in order for him to accept the position of director of maintenance for the district.

The term of the District 3 position ends December 2022. According to Chesterfield County School Board policy BBBE, “In the event of a vacancy on the board occurring for any reason other than expiration of a term, the board will call a special election to fill the unexpired term, so long as the vacancy does not occur within ten months of a regular trustee’s election. In this case, the vacancy must be filled for the unexpired term or for a full term at the next regular election.”

Miles’ resignation was effective Jan. 10 while the general election for the next term of that position is scheduled for Nov. 8 which is less than 10 months, meaning the District 3 position will remain vacant for that period.
