Theodore Marion Burns
CHERAW – Mr. Theodore “Teddy” Marion Burns, 61, died Sunday, August 7, 2022. Born, August 25, 1961, in Cheraw, SC, he was a son of the late Wallace and Rebecca Robinson Burns. Theodore was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cheraw, SC, where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class, served as head usher, served on the preschool board. He was an active member of the United Methodist Men’s Group, always participating in the annual Fall barbecue. He was a member of the Cheraw Fire Department, the Cheraw Rescue Squad, as well as the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
Teddy was a member of the of the Cheravian Club and a board member of the Cheraw Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Airport Commission, the Pee Dee Regional Transport Authority (PDRTA), and was a former Constable. Teddy loved people and enjoyed socializing, fishing, golfing, and hunting. He also was an avid Gamecock fan and enjoyed watching college and professional football with his wife.
Mr. Burns had many accomplishments in life, some of which included, receiving the Rescue man of the Year Award in 1988 from the Cheraw Rescue Squad; the Non-Clinical Employee of the Year Award in 2006 out of 25 hospitals in Community Health Systems, the Non-Clinical Manager of the Year Award in 2014 from Chesterfield General Hospital; and the Whatever It Takes (W.I.T) Award for Team Strengthening and Successful Goal Completion from Chesterfield General Hospital.
Along with his parents, listed above, Teddy was preceded in death by his brothers, Virgil Burns and Ronnie Burns; his sisters, Luberta Burns, Harriet Rorie, and Janice Burns.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Louise Long of the home; a brother, Thomas Burns (Kathy); sisters, Mary Emma Souza, and Carolyn Harrell; a niece, Destiny Burns; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graveside funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw, SC.

Frank Hunley
MONROE, N.C. – Frank Hunley, 98, died at White Oak Manor in Waxhaw, surrounded by his daughter, Mary Louise “Lou” Hunley, his youngest sister, Betty Barrett Hunley, and his nephew, Craig Hunley. Frank grew up in Chesterfield, SC, the son of Charles and Mary Craig Hunley. He was the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Chesterfield High School and attended the University of South Carolina. Frank settled in Monroe, NC, where he ran a Texaco Station at the corner of Roosevelt Boulevard and Sutherland Avenue (where Walgreens is today.) At this location, he proposed to Ruth Ellis. They were engaged for a week and married for 37 years. Ruth died in 1995. They had one daughter, Lou.
He became active in Alcoholics Anonymous and achieved 47 years of sobriety. Known to his AA friends as “Happy Frank,” he enjoyed great fellowship in this group. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves, USC Gamecocks, and the Carolina Panthers. He never rooted for the University of North Carolina. He was an avid reader of history and biography. He enjoyed 36 years of retirement which suited his easy-going temperament. He dealt all his life with the effects of Polio at age two. He led an active life for many years and adjusted to the physical changes of his later years. His favorite saying was “Have a great day unless you have other plans.”
He is survived by his daughter, Lou Hunley, of Wesley Chapel, NC, his sister, Betty Barrett of Laurinburg, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27th at 11:00 am at The Church of the Redeemer in Indian Trail, NC. Miller Rivers Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield, S.C. will be in charge.

Glenn L. Johnson
JEFFERSON – Mr. Glenn L. Johnson, age 73, entered into rest on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at his home with his loving family by his side. The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home. A private family service was held at Antioch Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born September 1, 1948 in Jefferson, SC a son of the late Burkett C. and Rosa Poston Johnson. He was the owner and operator of Johnson’s Lawn Service for over 30 years, a former employee of A.O. Smith, and the former owner and operator of Catarrh Grocery and J&J Produce. He was a life-long faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as former Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday school teacher, cemetery coordinator, and building and grounds chairman. Outside of working, Mr. Glenn enjoyed farming, working on his tractors, and gardening. A man who never met a stranger, he always took time to help and get to know people. His greatest title was “Papa” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was also preceded in death by his sisters, Sybil Kirkley, and Linda Price; and brothers, Gerald Johnson, Heyward Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, and an infant brother, Perry Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Alice Faye Johnson; children, Jill (David) Hawksworth of McBee, SC, Steve (Donna) Johnson of Society Hill, SC, Kevin (Tanya) Johnson of Hartsville, SC, Dwayne (Denise) Johnson of McBee, SC; grandchildren, Justin (Kayla) Hawksworth, Alicia (Christopher) Miles, Erin (Will Hart) Hawksworth, Katie Johnson, Kassie Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Zachary Johnson, Savannah (Matthew) Kreh, Liana Johnson, Makaila Johnson, and Neil Johnson II; great grandchildren, Sarah, Trenton, and Addy; brother, Harold (Jackie) Johnson of Lugoff, SC; sister, Mary Lou “Boots” Watkins of Rembert, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hedwig “Hedy” Barbara Unsin Waller
CHERAW – Mrs. Hedwig “Hedy” Barbara Unsin Waller, 96, died on Saturday, August 6, 2022. Born, August 30, 1925, in Grobenzell (Munich), Germany, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Barbara Unsin.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William Wright Waller, Jr. (Jerry); a daughter, Glenna Calvin; a sister, Irmgard Donhauser; and a daughter-in-law, Martha Waller.
Hedy is survived by a daughter, Jane Levans (Michael) of Rock Hill, SC; her sons, Tom Waller (Karen) of Chesterfield, SC and John P. Waller (Tonya) of Chattanooga, TN; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Hedy was as an avid gardener, a master chef, and a lover of animals. Her fortitude and unassuming courage was an inspiration to all who were fortunate to know her and serves as an extraordinarily solid foundation on which we the following generations now stand.
A private service will be held at a later date.
