Mable Elizabeth Wicker Brown

MYRTLE BEACH/CHERAW – Mable Elizabeth Wicker Brown, 89, died Saturday, August 27, 2022. Born in Wallace, SC she was a daughter of the late William Roland and Donnie Bennett Wicker. She was a member of the Surfside Baptist Church. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross (Cheraw Chapter and Myrtle Beach Chapter) also, the Myrtle Beach Salvation Army, Mercy Hospice of Conway, and CASA (domestic violence center). Mrs. Brown was a member of 2 bridge clubs, also, the Chesterfield Square Dancers and the Cheraw Couples Club. She loved travelling all over the world with her husband and sharing adventures with her friends in Cheraw. She enjoyed everything in nature and had a green thumb and could grow anything. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband, Gene Brown of the home, sons, Chuck Brown of Fort Mill, SC, David Brown of Cheraw, SC, daughters, Brenda Briggle of Blythewood, SC, Minta Bolton of Myrtle Beach, SC, grandchildren Kyle Pugh, Jarrod Bolton Julie Blackwell, Katherine Brown, Caitlin Cox and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents listed above, a brother, Billy Wicker and a sister, Ellen Griggs.

The family received friends 12 noon to 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A celebration of life was held 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

James Thomas Thompson

CHERAW – Mr. James Thomas Thompson, 87, died on Friday, September 2, 2022.  Born, April 4, 1935, in Chesterfield County, SC, he was a son of the late William and Ethel Turnage Thompson.  James was a member of Maranatha Family Center in Cheraw, SC and enjoyed fishing and hunting arrow heads with his grandchildren.  He loved Cheraw and knew almost everything about the history of Cheraw and South Carolina.  He loved old artifacts and enjoyed going to Cheraw Town Council Meetings and Chesterfield County Council Meetings.  In his later years, Mr. Thompson became very interested in politics, some would even say that he was a political activist.  He also enjoyed reading and telling people about Cheraw.  He will be most remembered for his love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

James leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 68 years, Marian Jones Thompson of the home; daughters, Linda Sharpe (Robert) of Santee, SC and Vickie Boan (Ted) of Cheraw, SC; a brother, Bill Thompson (Cathy) of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Chad Lee (Bethany), Kristen Driggers (Barry), Robbie Sharpe (Mallory), and Ryan Sharpe (Zealy); great-grandchildren, Lincoln Lee, Londyn Driggers, Laney Driggers, Peyton Sharpe, Jennie Claire Sharpe, John Ryan Sharpe, and Hazel Sharpe; and his “right hand man”, James Hannah.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 5, 2022, at Maranatha Family Center in Cheraw, SC.  A private burial will be held at a later date.

The family received friends, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. just prior to the service at the church on Monday.
