Eleanor Haley Anderson

Eleanor Haley Anderson, age 94, passed away into the loving arms of our Lord on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital in Highlands, NC, following a brief critical illness and several years of declining health.
Eleanor was born in Cheraw, SC to Volina Rivers Haley and Charles Boyd Haley, Sr. She and her husband, the late Rev. Dr. E.S. Andy Anderson, moved to Fort Myers, Florida in 1956 when he became pastor of Riverside Baptist Church. They retired to Fort Myers Beach where Eleanor continued to live after his death until losing her home to Hurricane Ian in September 2022.
Eleanor was an author and ghost writer for her husband throughout his ministry. Known to her family as “Baba,” she was the much beloved family matriarch. She was also well known in the Fort Myers Beach community and was always treated as a “Queen” everywhere she went. Eleanor was a deeply committed Christian who loved to support mission causes across the world. She loved reading books, going to movies at the Beach Theater, vacationing at Disney World (her favorite ride was “Soarin” at EPCOT and riding on the bus to and from the parks), and going to the Everglades Wonder Gardens. Her favorite animal there was “Buddha”, a very large male iguana! She loved Tuesdays, her favorite outing, where she got her hair “fixed” and had lunch at one of her favorite restaurants.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law, Dale Conn, a brother, Fred Haley, and a granddaughter, Billie Locke. She is survived by her children: Mary Anne Conn (Gene Blouse) of Winchester, TN; Ron Anderson (Nancy) of Highlands, NC; and Sonja Locke (Dwight) of Fort Myers Beach, FL. She is also survived by a sister, Alice Bunton (Raymond), brothers, Charles Haley (Laura) and Rev. David Haley (Binky), 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were made by Bryant-Grant Funeral Home of Franklin, NC, with Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens, who provided a private family graveside service on December 10, 2022, led by her brother, Rev. David Haley.
Memorial contributions may be made to Everglades Wonder Gardens, 27180 Old 41 Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34135-5405 (wondergardens.org). It was her favorite place in the world.
