Aaron Roderick Horne
RUBY – Mr. Aaron Roderick Horne, age 65, has entered into eternal rest. Graveside services were held at 5:00 PM, Friday, August 11, 2023 at Thompson Creek Baptist Church Cemetery by Dr. Ronnie Grizzle. The family greeted friends immediately following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of his brother, Gettys and Cynthia Horne.
Mr. Horne was born October 3, 1957 in Chesterfield County, SC a son of the late William Gettys Horne, Sr. and Virginia Davidson Horne. He was a 1975 graduate of Chesterfield High School and a retired employee of Caro-Knit – Ti-Caro of Jefferson. An humble man who never met a stranger, Aaron was a faithful member of Thompson Creek Baptist Church. He was an avid reader who enjoyed history and watching tv. Above all else, Aaron was a loving son and dedicated caregiver to his parents.
In addition to his parents, Aaron was also preceded in death by his sister, Wendy H. Hatchell; and nephew, William “Will” Gettys Horne, III.
Survivors include his brother, William Gettys (Cynthia) Horne, Jr. of Ruby, SC; brother-in-law, Jamie Hatchell of Florence, SC; aunt, Mary Jo Davidson of Chesterfield, SC; and numerous cousins.

Lonnie David Sweatt
CHESTERFIELD – Mr. Lonnie David Sweatt, age 85, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 10, 2023. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Tracy Hinson and Dr. Lindsey Powell. Burial with full military honors followed in the Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens. The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Sweatt was born June 29, 1938 in Cheraw, SC a son of the late Lonnie and Ruth Kathleen Jarrell Sweatt. He was a member of the SC Army National Guard and served 21 years, and 9 days of active duty in the U.S. Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam. Following his military career, Lonnie retired from Carolina Canners after 20 years of service. He was a member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church. He loved the Lord, his country, and family. In his spare time, Lonnie enjoyed “piddling” on anything he thought needed repairing.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sweatt was also preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Margie Faye Starling Sweatt; and siblings, Virginia Starling, Patti Driggers, and Catherine Felts.
Survivors include his children, Mona (Milton) Johnson of Hartsville, SC, Howard June Bunting, Jr., Lora (Chip) Canipe both of Chesterfield, SC, Donna Powers of Asheboro, NC, Charles Raeford (Sherry) Bunting of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Kevin Powers, Charlie Lane, Russell Powers, Justin Bunting, Christy Johnson, and Casey Johnson; great grandchildren, Evan, Callie, Gracie, Dallas, Aden, Emma, and Kerstin; brother, Eddie (Carolyn) Sweatt of Holden Beach, NC; sister-in-law, Nellie Parker of Mocksville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gennie Lynn Williams Wallace
Gennie Lynn Williams Wallace, 75, of Irmo/Cheraw, SC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 8, 2023, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, SC, after a courageous battle with brain and lung cancer for 17 months. She initially had cancer when she was 18, but after surgery, she was a cancer survivor for 55 years before these recent cancers were first diagnosed as Stage IV on March 6, 2022.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 PM Saturday, August 12, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by the Reverends Donald Wallace, Sr., David Wilks, Chris Hall, and Brent Taylor with burial following in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Gennie, known affectionately as “Meme” by her precious grandchildren and many others, was born in Chesterfield County on August 6, 1948, the fourth child of the late Jimmie E. Williams and the late Ella Jane Crowley Williams. She received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1964, was baptized, and became a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC. She and her husband Dennis later joined Southside Baptist Church in Greenville, SC and then Harbor Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC. She, along with her family, were charter members of Gateway Baptist Church in Irmo, SC. She later re-joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC when her husband Dennis was called to be their pastor in 2000.
Gennie completed high school at the Irmo Career Center, along with taking several additional courses offered by the career center. She loved children and helped raise many of them while working at, and sometimes managing, daycare centers at churches and in her home. She later served as a substitute teacher for Lexington County District 5 schools. Young people were attracted to her, because she was down-to-earth and enjoyed having fun with them. She initially went to work to help Dennis while he attended college at CIU. She was a faithful pastor’s wife and helped Dennis in his ministry in any way that she could.
She was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she had served as Vacation Bible School Director for several years, a member of the Fellowship Committee and was willing to help wherever she was needed.
She loved to shop and was noted for her ability to find quality merchandise for the lowest price. She was known for her delicious chicken and dumplings and pecan “chews”. She enjoyed her pig collectibles, Christmas village collection and crocheting baby blankets for many newborns. She loved the beach and enjoyed riding her golf cart through Ocean Lakes Campground where her family had a beach home for 30 years. She had a lovely smile and was a true, loving friend to many, and treasured their friendships.
Gennie dearly loved her family and was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie E. Williams and Ella Jane Crowley Williams; a son, John David Wallace; a brother, James W. (Dub) Williams and a sister, Betty Jo Williams Owensby.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 ½ years William Dennis Wallace; their sons, Billy (Crystal) Wallace of Lexington, SC, and Nathan (Anne) Wallace of Cheraw, SC.; 5 grandchildren, Tyler Wallace of Cheraw, SC, Jeremy Wallace of Columbia, SC, Trent Wallace of Lexington, SC, Emily Wallace of Cheraw, SC, and Olivia Wallace of Cheraw, SC; sisters, Carolyn Williams Boone of Patrick/Effingham, SC, and Bonnie Williams Moore of Ruby SC; brother-in-law, Rev. Donald (Mary) Wallace of Chesterfield, SC; sisters-in-law, Sue (Billy) Driggers of Effingham, SC, and Jeanette (Andy) Linton of Cheraw, SC; granddaughter, Ashley (McKenzie) Huggins of Hartsville, SC; step great granddaughters, Destiny Johnson, Rylie Huggins and Lily Huggins of Hartsville, SC; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank the staffs of the Lexington Medical Center Oncology and Oncology Radiation departments for their treatments that helped extend Gennie’s life for several months, her oncologist Jennifer Peagler and the LMC 9th Floor North nurses that ministered to her during the last week of her life. Robert Lee Weir Sr.
MCBEE – Robert Lee Weir, Sr. passed away on August 7, 2023, at the age of 75. Born on September 10, 1947, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Frank and Alma Weir. He is survived by his wife, Anna McLeod Weir and his children, Dayna Weir Abel (Robert), Warren Patrick Weir, Joanna Weir Tucker (William), and Robert Lee Weir, Jr. (Elizabeth). He was grandfather to Cherish Zdenek Underwood (Kyle), Miyah Jackson-Weir, Drew Zdenek (Madison), Hudson Tucker, Amelia Tucker, Robert Weir, III, and Eloise Tucker. He also had three great-grandchildren, Nataleigh, Annsleigh, and Kade Underwood. He treasured his relationship with Jesus Christ and his family above all else. Robert served in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he was a sheriff’s deputy with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
He served as President of Construction Products in MarMac Manufacturing, Co. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Frank Weir, and his siblings, Gerald Weir, Bettie Weir Finch, and Paul Weir. Services were held on August 11th.
