Thomas Dean Grant
Thomas Dean Grant, often referred to as “Tom Terrific,” passed away August 25, 2023, surrounded by family after a battle with service-related cancer. His family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Baumgartner Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service was held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Jefferson Church of God with Pastor David Grubbs officiating. The burial followed at Jefferson Town Cemetery with Military Honors.
Tommy was born August 17, 1946, in Monroe, NC, to the late Leroy and Mildred Simpson Grant. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Janice Rollings Grant; son, Jeffery Dean Grant (Melanie); daughters, Audra Grant Coble and Janisyn Grant McLaurin (Steve Cherok); granddaughters, Anistyn Grant, Ainsley Grant, Grant Coble and Miloree McLaurin; grandsons, John Coble, Gavin Grant, Charlie McLaurin and Thomas McLaurin; many nieces and nephews; brother, David Grant (Lynda); sisters, Debbie Funderburk (Ronnie) and Rhonda Dew (Johnny); brother-in-law, Jerry Zellmer and sister-in-law, Eugenia Grant. Tommy is preceded in death by sister, Phyllis Grant Zellmer and brother, Stephen Grant.
Tommy grew up in Marshville, NC and later moved to Pageland, SC, where he graduated from high school as a green and gold Pageland Tiger. After high school, Tommy was drafted into the Army and served as a chaplain assistant during the Vietnam War era in Thailand. After proudly serving our country, he attended King’s College in Charlotte, NC. Tommy loves to tell the story of how he won the heart of Janice, the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. The two built a life together in Jefferson, SC, where Tommy was a small business owner of Carolina Poultry of Pageland, Inc. Tommy loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved sharing his passion for the outdoors with many, especially his grandchildren. He was a gifted athlete, an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. Tommy was the founding member of the Briarstompers Hunting Club and a longtime member of the Wahee Gun Club in Marion, SC, where he is legendary for his success at “riphunting.” Tommy had a weekly tee time with the White Plains Country Club senior golf group. He also loved his church and community. He was a dedicated and active member of the Jefferson Church of God where he served as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent. He served as a Hospice volunteer and especially loved participating in the Veteran Pinning Ceremonies. Tommy was a member of the American Legion Post #80. He served on the Chesterfield County School Board and the Chesterfield County Medical Board.

Carol D. Harrell
CHERAW – Carol Jean Dickens Harrell, 91, died on Friday, September 8, 2023. Born, September 27, 1931, in Fries, VA, she was the daughter of the late Edward Eugene and Mary Elise Mabe Dickens. Carol was a member of First Baptist Church in Cheraw, SC, and retired with 20 years of service as the secretary for Long Jr. High School in Cheraw, SC.
Along with her parents, listed above, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Allen Lee Harrell; her daughter, Teresa H. Roller; and grandchildren, Jonathan Laney and Shannon Marie Laney.
Mrs. Harrell leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Karan H. Laney of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, William Kell Hall of Bennettsville, SC, and Alyssa Lauren Christopher of Wallace, SC; and great-grandchildren, Juliana Laney, Ashlynn Hall, Taylor Hall, Oaklynn-Rea Hall, Nathan Christopher, Noah Christopher.
A funeral service was held at Cheraw First Baptist Church on Monday, September 11, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. Burial followed in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw, SC.
The family received friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. just prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Denna Michelle Watford
PATRICK – Ms. Denna Michelle Watford, age 54, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. Graveside services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Patrick Cemetery by Pastor Grover Johnson. Friends could stop by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home between the hours of 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Sunday, September 10, 2023 to view and pay respects.
Ms. Watford was born December 8, 1968 in Brunswick, GA a daughter of James Edward “Jimmy” Watford and the late Mary Francis Tyner Watford. She was a 1988 graduate of Chesterfield High School and a member of Patrick Baptist Church. Denna worked at BiLo in Cheraw during high school and following graduation she was employed with Mar Mac. For the past 25 years, Denna has worked with the Chesco Workshop in Cheraw, SC. She was an avid fan of the Chesterfield Rams and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
In addition to her mother, Denna was also preceded in death by her brother, Caleb Watford; and grandparents, George & Mary Ellen Tyner, and James & Mammie Watford.
Survivors include her parents, Jimmy & Sue Watford of Patrick, SC; brother, Chris (Susan) Watford of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Jena (Jimmy) Crowder of Cheraw, SC; nieces, Ruby Watford, Hannah Crowder Gopaul, and Naiyah Watford; nephews, Garret Watford, Keith Crowder, and Oakley Gopaul; aunts, Wanda Griggs, Brenda Hopkins, and Barbara Watford all of Hartsville, SC; uncle, Wayne “Snake” Watford of Hartsville, SC.
The family is grateful to the staff and administration of CHESCO Services for the excellent care and support provided to Denna over the years.
