Carolyn Baker
MURRELLS INLET/CHERAW – Mrs. Carolyn Streater Baker passed away peacefully on Monday, September 11, 2023. Carolyn was born on September 6, 1932, to the late John Wesley and Virginia Watson Streater. She married the late Frank Baker on October 15, 1950. They were happily married for 66 years. Carolyn and Frank enjoyed playing golf, cards, and socializing with lifelong friends. They were faithful members of St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cheraw, SC. She was active with many social groups over the years including The Red Hat Society, Bridge Clubs, The Cheraw Singers, and The Pee Dee Ladies Golf Association. She also loved traveling with Frank in their motor home.
Carolyn was a devoted wife and homemaker, but she was most well-known as the busy mother of the five Baker Boys: Andy, Frank Jr., Wesley, David, and Bill. She supported her sons by attending countless sporting events and could be heard cheering from the stands over a span of 24 years. She never missed an opportunity to cheer her boys on.
Eventually, Carolyn stepped into the role of Grandmother and was affectionately known as Nanny B. She embraced this new phase of her life whole heartedly. She had a special touch providing comfort to newborns, and her grandchildren held a special bond with her. Carolyn had 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Outside of the home, Carolyn somehow found time to briefly work for Dr. Perry in Chesterfield, Dr. Ervin in Cheraw, and she also spent time working with children at The Little Red School House.
Along with her parents and husband, listed above, Carolyn was preceded in death by her sons, David and Wesley and her great granddaughter, Carolyn Mae Brantley. Carolyn leaves behind Andy Baker (Wanda) of Murrells Inlet, Frank Baker of Cheraw, and Bill Baker (Kimball) of Murrells Inlet, her sister Sarah Stowe of Belmont, NC, and her Brother Jakie Streater of Cheraw.
A graveside service was held at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
Kiser Funeral Home has been entrusted to serve the Baker family in their time of grief.
