Henry ‘Hank’ Williamson Brasington, Jr.

CHERAW – Henry “Hank” Williamson Brasington, Jr., 67, died on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Born, April 5, 1956, in Albemarle, NC, he was the son of Viola Mondell Bowers Brasington and the late Henry Williamson Brasington, Sr.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr.  Hank will be fondly remembered as a kind and caring person.

He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Williamson Brasington, Sr.; and Hank’s loving partner, Joyce Sutton.

Hank leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sons, Henry “Trey” Williamson Brasington, III of Hilton Head, SC, and Dustin Adam Brasington (Lauryn) of Lexington, SC; his mother, Mondell Bowers Brasington of Cheraw, SC; a sister, Debbie Adams (George) of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Tysen Brasington, Mason Brasington, and Ethan Brasington.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Kiser Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

A private burial will be held at a later date at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw, SC.

Memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited at; or to a charity of one’s choice.

Jimmy L. Eddins Sr.

Jimmy L. Eddins Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday January 16th at 8:00 am. Jimmy was born on January 1st 1948 to the late Curnel and Sarah Oliver Eddins. Jimmy was born in the home and lived on the farm with his parents and six sisters.

Jimmy was drafted into the Army January of 1968, and entered basic training at Fort Bragg, NC.  He then was ordered to Fort Seal, Ok for more training, AIT.   Jimmy received his orders for Viet Nam and spent a year there in artillery camps, and returned home as Sergeant Jimmy L. Eddins in January of 1970.

Jimmy later met his loving wife, Melody Sue Griggs Eddins and married August 7th, 1975.  They had two children: Tanya E (Kevin) Johnson from Hartsville, SC, and Jimmy (Jimbo) L. Eddins Jr from Kershaw, SC (special friend, Mariah Davenport, Pageland, SC).

Jimmy has five beautiful grandchildren:  Nicholas Reid Johnson, Savannah C (Matthew) Kreh, Zachary Scott Johnson, MaKenzie Leigh Eddins, and Brent Allen Eddins.  He also has one great-grandson, Samuel Stover Kreh.  Jimmy also has two grandsons “of the heart”, Coleton and Caleb Medlin.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Curnel and Sarah O. Eddins.  One sister, Bobbi O Moore, Charlotte, NC.

Along with his wife and family, Jimmy is survived by his sisters, Doris E Thurman, Bonnie Gainey, Sue Stogner, and Patricia Rushing, all of Jefferson, SC.  Jimmy also has a sister in Sunset City, Florida, Joyce (Art) Bryant.  There are many nieces and nephews who love their “Uncle Jim”.

Jimmy was a master carpenter and enjoyed working around Chesterfield County and surrounding counties changing the looks of peoples’ homes.  He owned and operated Sandhill Home Improvement for over thirty-five years till his son, Jimmy Jr (Jimbo) took over in 2017.  Jimmy loved God, his wife, and his family.  He loved making sure the grandchildren would have special days; such as birthdays, Christmas, and vacations.

Jimmy loved his church, Calvary Baptist Church of Jefferson, SC where he served faithfully for many-many years.

An informal visitation was held from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1852 Peach Orchard Road, Jefferson, SC. You may visit with the family at other times at the Eddins home at 5748 Steen Road, Jefferson, SC.

A graveside service with military honors was held at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Kershaw City Cemetery officiated by Pastor Johnny Cassada and Brent Taylor.

The family would like to thank Jimmy’s special caregivers, Ermith Funderburk, Carol Hendrix, Brianna Lee, Sharon Miller, and Myra Tilson for their love and compassion they showed Jimmy as they cared for him day after day. We would also like to thank Norma Jean Coleman for directing some of these girls from Hearts and Hands. We would also like to thank the nurses, aides, and staff of Gentiva hospice for having such caring hearts for Jimmy.

Mitchell ‘Mickey’ Thomas Gathings

WALLACE – Mitchell “Mickey” Thomas Gathings, 71, died on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Born, June 22, 1952, in Rockingham, NC, he was a son of the late Daniel Gathings and Ruby Blackmon Edwards. Mickey was a proud faithful member of Faith Fellowship Church in Wallace, SC.

Along with his parents, listed above, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 28 years, Vivian Gathings; step mother, Doris Gathings; and step father, Rodney Edwards.

Mickey leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters, Amy Rainwater (Joe) of Wallace, SC, and Michelle Fuller (Alan) of Ellerbe, NC; brothers, Danny Gathings (Kim) of Ellerbe, NC, and Ronnie Blackmon (Joyce) of Memphis, TN; a sister, Lisa G. Smith of Ellerbe, NC; grandchildren, Tyler Graves (Jessica), and Kylie Rainwater; a great-granddaughter, Jayda Graves; and eleven nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Faith Fellowship Church in Wallace. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. just prior to the service at the church.

Mary Frances Nicholson

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Mary Frances Nicholson, age 90, entered into rest on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 22, 2024 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Randy Bishop. The committal portion of the service was conducted inside the chapel prior to a private burial in the Chesterfield Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service at funeral home.

Mrs. Nicholson was born December 8, 1933 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Hubert and Margurite Smith Gaskins. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School and a retired employee of the Clemson University Extension with over 30 years of service. Frances was a member of Chesterfield Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a nursery worker for many years. A dedicated homemaker, Mrs. Nicholson enjoyed working in her yard, raising cats, and was an excellent cook. She also was a faithful caregiver to her parents for many years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nicholson was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby F. Nicholson.

Survivors include her son, Tony Nicholson of Hilton Head / Lancaster, SC; grandchildren, John R. “Robbie” (Shelley) Nicholson of Elkin, NC, and Anthony Scott Nicholson, Jr. (Brie Harris) of Black Mountain, NC; great grandchildren, Alexander Nicholson, and Jessie Nicholson; sisters, Bonnie Jean Gaskins Lofton of Pamplico, SC, and Martha Ruth “Marti” Edwards of Jackson, MS; and beloved caregivers, Lessie Smith and Janice Wilson.

Rocky Dean Tyner

CHERAW – Reverend Rocky Dean Tyner, age 66, went to his heavenly home on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Regency Hospital in Florence, SC. Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2024 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home with a service of committal following in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Rev. Tyner was born October 27, 1957 in Gastonia, NC a son of the late Rev. Everett “Buzzy” and Frances “Bobbie” Hyde Tyner. Rocky Received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army National Guard in Fort Mill, SC. He attended the Church of Life in Wallce, SC. Rocky worked for the Dream Maker Tours and Lancaster Tours for many years as a tour bus driver. He loved the Lord and was always talking with others about God and his Faith. Rocky never met a stranger and loved people. He loved his family and friends so much. He loved to joke and make people laugh. He was passionate about politics. Rocky loved Christmas and enjoyed watching Christmas movies. He always said “you can never have too many Christmas lights.” His favorite bible verse was Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

In addition to his parents, Rev. Tyner was also preceded in death by his brother, William Rayford Tyner; sister, Sherril Elders; nephew, Jack “J.D.” Elders and Jack’s wife, Jennifer Elders.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 45 years, Wanda Collins Tyner of the home; son, Phillip Dean Tyner of Cheraw, SC; daughters, Tiffany Gall Tyner of Cheraw, SC, Candie M. (Rev. Grant R., III) Gleason of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Westley Dean Tyner, Grant R. “Little G” Gleason IV, Grayson Gleason, Brandyn Tyner, Gaverick Gleason; brothers, Eddie (Janice) Tyner of Mountville, SC, Rev. Tony (Connie) Tyner of Cheraw, SC, Rev. James (April) Tyner of Cheraw, SC; sister, Starr (Rev. Jamie) Wade of Laurens, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and his extended family at Church of Life.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Cheraw Healthcare, Fresenius Kidney Care of Cheraw, Dr. Maqsood, Dr. Biester, Caresouth of Chesterfield, Mcleod Health Cheraw, Regency Hospital of Florence, Med One Transport, and special friend, Eric for their care of Rocky.
