Streater wins GOP nod for sheriff
Cambo Streater tallied 2,509 votes (72.1 percent) and carried all 25 precincts to win the Republican nomination for Chesterfield County sheriff to defeat Keith Thomas with 973 votes (27.9 percent). Streater will face incumbent Democrat Sheriff James Dixon in the Nov. 8 general election.
Kathy Maness outpolled Ellen Weaver 2,236 to 1,066 in the county for the Republican runoff for state superintendent of education. However, statewide, Weaver won that nominationwith 63 percent of the vote.
Catherine Bruce was the Democrats’ choice for U.S. senator in Chesterfield County with 131 votes, while Krystie Matthews received 79 votes. But, statewide, Matthews received 57 percent of the vote to secure that nomination.
The county turnout was 14.3 percent, which compares to the statewide turnout of 5.2 percent. All results are unofficial until the county election commissions certify the results this Thursday, June 30.
