CCSO deputy terminated, arrested in SLED dog fighting investigation

A deputy with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested and terminated following an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division into alleged dog fighting activity.
According to Sheriff Cambo Streater, in the early morning hours of April 28, the CCSO was contacted by SLED regarding an ongoing investigation into allegations of dogfighting involving a Chesterfield County deputy.
Agents with SLED executed a search warrant at the residence of Deputy Shane Gaskins.
Following the search, Gaskins was taken into custody by SLED agents.
Streater said, as a result of his arrest, Gaskins has been terminated from his employment with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.
“The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office holds all deputies to the highest professional and ethical standards,” said Streater. “When those standards are not upheld, appropriate and immediate action will be taken. We will continue to fully cooperate with SLED throughout the course of this investigation. Maintaining the trust and confidence of the citizens we serve remains our highest priority.”
CCSO officials said this is an active and ongoing SLED investigation. All inquiries, questions, or concerns related to this matter should be directed to SLED.
At this time, SLED will announce formal charges at a later date.
