CSX begins railway maintenance in county

CSX Transportation has two railroad tie teams that will began working in Chesterfield County on Monday, Jan. 13 and are working toward Kershaw County.
CSX officials said the company hopes to be finished with the maintenance by Feb. 6, weather permitting.
The work will require a total closure of the railroad crossings along the way as rail ties are replaced, temporarily halting rail traffic and closing all motor vehicle crossings along the route.
Team one started in Cheraw and is working south toward McBee.
Team two started in McBee and is going south toward Cassatt.
The railway parallels U.S. Highway 1, crossing over and under the highway along the approximately 41-mile route.
CSX officials said no motor vehicle traffic will be permitted to cross the tracks in the affected areas during maintenance.
Motorists should follow posted signage for rerouting around maintenance zones.
In areas where crossings are the only access point for residents, CSX hopes  to complete maintenance within 12 hours.
Maintenance is expected to take three to five days in most areas.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and exercise caution while navigating detour routes. For updates, follow local announcements and signage near the affected areas.
