Due to rainy weather, the ceremony for the newly completed walking trail at Dock Campbell Memorial Park in Patrick has been rescheduled for Friday, March 6.
The event will be at 5 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the park, located at 117 Campbell St. in Patrick. The ceremony will include a first walk around the newly finished trail and a brief ribbon‑cutting to mark the project’s completion.
Mayor Rosa Lee Millsaps Privette said the
improvements strengthen one of the town’s most meaningful public spaces. The park was established in memory of Dock Campbell, the first African American to serve on the Patrick Town Council.
“His leadership, dedicatio
n, and commitment to our community helped pave the way for progress and unity within our town,” she said.
The latest upgrades include new park lighting installed by Duke Energy and a freshly added asphalt walking trail completed by Furr Asphalt and Paving Company of Cheraw. The trail offers residents a safe, well‑lit place to exercise and gather.
“You can go 7.5 times around the walking pavement, and it will equal one mile,” said Privette. “It’s not quite as big as the other walking trail in Patrick, but it’s the one I would choose to start walking on.”
The park also features a basketball court and open space for community use. The walking area will be open daily from dawn to dusk, with gates closing at 10 p.m.
Members of the Campbell family plan to attend the dedication.
“We are looking forward to this, and I hope a lot of people will come out and be a part of this event,” said Privette.
