Lockhart surrenders in March 28 homicide

A 17‑year‑old wanted in the shooting death of a Pageland teenager has been taken into custody, according to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Cambo Streater, Jeremiah J. Lockhart, 17, of Pageland, self‑surrendered Wednesday (April 1) and was taken into custody without incident.
He was transported to the Chesterfield County Detention Center, where he is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Investigators said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Lockhart was arrested in connection with t the March 28 shooting death of 16-year-old Zaden C. Bratsos, 16, of Pageland.

The CCSO also issued a correction, noting that an earlier release misstated the victim’s age. Bratsos was 16 at the time of his death.

“We sincerely apologize for that error and extend our continued thoughts and prayers to the family,” said Streater.

He said the case has weighed heavily on the community and on investigators who have worked around the clock since the shooting.

“Our investigators and deputies worked tirelessly to bring this individual into custody,” said Streater. “While this is a significant step forward, we remain committed to ensuring justice is fully served. Our thoughts and prayers are with Zaden’s family as they continue to navigate this unimaginable loss.”

The CCSO thanked residents for the tips and information that helped to move the investigation forward, as well as the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for its assistance.
