McBee town election ruling appealed to state supreme court

The Link newspaper has learned that earlier this month, attorneys for Charlie Short, Charlie Sutton and Hewitt Dixon filed an appeal with the S.C. Supreme Court of a ruling by the Court of Common Pleas in Chesterfield County regarding the McBee Town Council election of Sept. 1.

Last month, Judge Roger Henderson of the county’s Court of Common Pleas overturned the decision of the McBee Municipal Election Commission to order a new election that would have superseded the results of the McBee Town Council election of Sept. 1. Henderson wrote in the court document, “It is ordered that the order of the MEC is reversed and the MEC is ordered to declare Glenn Odom, James Linton, and Robbie Liles are elected as Mayor and Councilmen (respectively).”

While the supreme court considers the case, Mayor John Campolong and council members Bea Bolton, Kemp McLeod, Odom and Sutton will remain seated on McBee Town Council.
