County council beefs up law enforcement

Chesterfield County Council has approved the addition of two Chesterfield County Sheriff’’s deputy positions whose primary duties will be the enforcement of animal neglect/cruelty and litter laws. The action to hire the Class 1 certified law enforcement officers came after the executive session at Wednesday’s meeting.

The CCSO will not be engaged in the care and adoption of animals at the county animal shelter, policies and procedures at the shelter, or otherwise involved in the management of the day-to-day operations of the shelter. Those functions will remain under the supervision of County Administration.

Council also decided to authorize Administrator Tim Eubanks to explore the option of seeking assistance from a non-profit organization in the operation of the animal shelter.
