Animal control seizes 46 dogs
Chesterfield County Animal Control seized 46 dogs, many of them young puppies, at a residence yesterday, according to Animal Control Officer Blake Rakestraw.
“We got 46 dogs and four that were deceased. The ones we got were covered in fleas and malnourished,” he said, adding they were unable to catch some dogs yesterday and are working to get them now.
The animals were taken to the county animal shelter, which was already at capacity before the puppies arrived.
Shelter manager Teresa Yoder was able to set up an emergency rescue area for the dogs.
Yoder is requesting the public’s help with food and other assistance while they prepare the puppies for adoption and rescue organizations.
