Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade

State House expected to follow

The U.S. Supreme Court voted this morning to overturn the landmark Roe v Wade decision that allowed for legal abortions in the United States.

The S.C. House of Representatives is expected to follow suit, having included House Bill 5399 in the sine die of the 2021-22 legislative session, meaning the House can take up the legislation this coming Tuesday when it meets to consider Gov. Henry McMaster’s budget vetoes.

Rep. Richie Yow (District 53) said he would be a co-sponsor of the bill Tuesday, which is listed as “A bill to amend the code of laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section 44-41-05 so as to prohibit abortions in the state of South Carolina.”

More information will be posted to Breaking News as details become available.
