Sheriff’s office discovers dog fighting ring
The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man on weapon, drug and animal abuse and neglect charges.
CCSO animal control deputies Alex Carnes and Jason Eddins answered an animal cruelty complaint on Smith Lane in the Pageland area of Chesterfield County earlier today, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
After a thorough investigation, the deputies reportedly discovered a dog fighting ring and breeding operation.
Other Chesterfield County deputies, the State Law Enforcement Division and federal agents also responded to the scene.
Derwayne Terry Miller was arrested on weapon, drug and animal abuse and neglect charges. He is currently at the Chesterfield County Detention Center.
Federal charges will also be filed.
Thirteen adult dogs and nine puppies were rescued from the location.
“I commend both Deputy Carnes and Deputy Eddins, as well as all the other Chesterfield County deputies who responded, for their hard work and a job well done,” said Sheriff Cambo Streater.
