Arrests made in Feb. 4 murder of Cheraw couple
Two arrests have been made in the Feb. 4 murders of a Cheraw couple.
According to information from the Cheraw Police Department, officials with the CPD executed arrest and search warrants Oct. 25 for Nathaniel M. Meagher and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Thompson, both of 404 State Road in Cheraw, in connection with what was believed to be a murder/suicide that took place at 809 State Road in Cheraw.
The bodies of 82-year-old Oscar Del Rio and his wife, 74-year-old Madeleine Del Rio, were discovered by Meagher and Thompson on the morning of Feb. 4 of this year.
After an initial investigation, Cheraw police detectives discovered further investigation was warranted.
Cheraw Police Chief Julius Riley said he contacted Capt. Glenn Wood of the State Law Enforcement Division for assistance in the case.
Special Agent Justin T. Cutchin was assigned to the case. Cheraw Police Lt. Detective Nicole Scott headed the investigation, along with Cutchin, over the course of several months.
Officials said they were able to gather evidence that supported the issuance of several warrants.
Meagher was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, possession of weapon during violent crime, five counts of financial transaction card fraud and four counts of financial transaction card theft.
Thompson was arrested and charged with accessory before the fact to a felony and accessory after the fact to a felony.
