Chesterfield County sheriff is under investigation

State Law Enforcement Division officials are investigating allegations of misconduct by Chesterfield County Sheriff Cambo Streater after a secretly recorded conversation recently came to light.
The conversation allegedly has Streater promising to use his connections to dismiss charges in a 2020 shooting incident involving Devonte Robinson.
According to a June 10, 2020, article in The Link, a verbal altercation between Devonte Robinson and Noah Avila resulted in Avila allegedly being shot several times by Robinson. At the time of the article, Robinson was charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
A recent Queen City News report revealed Streater had visited Robinson, who is under house arrest, and his father and made several promises to them.
The conversation was secretly recorded and later given to SLED.
Renee Wunderlich, director of public information for SLED, confirmed the agency was investigating Streater.
She said the SLED investigation is active and ongoing, with no further details available.
