Tropical Storm Debby brings heavy rain, some flooding
As Tropical Storm Debby continued, Chesterfield County officials expect three to four additional inches of rain on Thursday, Aug. 8 with sustained winds around 16 mph and gusts around 26 mph.
The storm made landfall around 2 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, near Bulls Bay.
According to the National Weather Service, Chesterfield County received two to three inches of rain overnight. A wind gust of 42 mph was recorded overnight.
Over the last 12 hours Chesterfield County E-911 has received 103 emergency calls, 17 trees down reports, one flooded roadway report, six motor vehicle accidents due to the weather, five electrical hazards and zero road closures. SC Department of Transportation reported one road closure (J Van Anderson Road).
Chesterfield County Emergency Management is operating at OPCON 2 (enhanced preparedness) with limited staffing. All Chesterfield County Government Offices are operating on a normal schedule today.
Chesterfield County Emergency Management is monitoring the Pee Dee River along with several creeks and dams throughout the county.
The Pee Dee River is currently at 13.49 feet. It is expected to crest at 41.2 feet on Sunday, August 11.
Blewett Falls is starting to increase the flow from the dam as inflows from other creeks start to increase.
Blewett Falls Lake is expected to reach a full pond at 104 feet later this weekend.
Blewett Falls Lake is currently at 96.78 feet.
