SLED charges Pageland man with 29 offenses after domestic incident leads to standoff

A Pageland man was charged with 29 offenses after exchanging gunfire with various law enforcement during a standoff following a domestic incident in Pageland on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
SLED officials said the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service on August 21 regarding a domestic disturbance in the parking lot of Stars Sports and Fitness in Pageland.
According to SLED warrants, Bragg got in a verbal altercation with someone, he “presented and pointed a handgun and threatened to shoot everyone at the business.”
CCSO requested that Pageland Police Department (PPD) officers, who were nearby, respond.
The officers encountered Kenneth Bragg, 37, of Pageland, who fired shots at them and drove away. SLED officials said CCSO located Bragg a short time later, which led to an exchange of gunfire and a vehicle chase.
CCSO requested SLED to assist with an SLED helicopter responding to the area.
Bragg fired shots at the SLED helicopter and barricaded himself inside a home on Salebarn Lane in Pageland.
Following an overnight standoff and negotiations, Bragg was taken into custody on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 22.
According to SLED arrest warrants, Bragg “discharged a firearm in excess of 45 times while surrounded by law enforcement officers from the CCSO, Pageland Police Department, SLED, SC Department of Natural Resources, and SC Highway Patrol.”
Officials said no one was injured.
SLED officials said Bragg damaged two SLED drones and two SLED robots used during the standoff.
SLED was requested to investigate by the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Pageland Police Department.
SLED charged Bragg with 29 offenses on Friday, Aug. 23.
The offenses are two counts of breach/breach of peace, aggravated in nature, six counts of assault/attempted murder, three counts of weapons/discharging firearm into vehicle, aircraft, etc., domestic/domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, malicious/malicious injury to animals, personal property, injury value $10,000 or more, eight counts of weapons/pointing and presenting firearms at a person, three counts of weapons/possession weapon during violent crime, and five counts of weapons/use of firearm while under influence of alcohol or drugs.
SLED officials said this is an ongoing investigation and will not disclose any other information about the case.
SLED conducts law enforcement officer-involved shooting investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident or the agency with jurisdiction.
The incident in Chesterfield County was the 31st officer-involved shooting in South Carolina in 2024.
This is the first officer-involved shooting for the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office this year.
In 2023, there were 43 officer-involved shootings in South Carolina. The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office had no officer-involved shootings last year.
