Escaped inmate Planco captured in Richland County

One of four escaped inmates from the Chesterfield County Detention Center was captured in Richland County in the early hours of Thursday, Oct. 17.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Emanuel Planco was arrested by deputies early Thursday morning.
Richland County deputies responded before 2 a.m. Oct. 17 to the 1400 block of Willow Oak Drive about a suspicious person possibly breaking into vehicles.
Lott said when deputies arrived on scene and were attempting to make contact with the suspect, an RCSD K9 Specialist observed the suspect break into a Kia.
The suspect fled the location, which initiated a pursuit. Lott said the pursuit continued to the area of Lone Drive off of Farrow Rd. when deputies successfully deployed stop sticks.
The suspect then fled from the vehicle, initiating a foot pursuit.
Lott said K9 Kiro successfully tracked the suspect into the wood line on Lone Drive. The suspect was immediately apprehended and identified as Emanuel Planco.
Planco was transported to a local hospital to be treated for dog bites.
During the investigation, it was determined earlier in the night, Planco had attempted to break into a home near Willow Oak Drive and steal a bicycle when the homeowner saw Planco on video and fired a shot into the air, scaring Planco off.
Lott said officials discovered Planco also broke into at least three other vehicles at the 1400 block of Willow Oak Drive and stole a Play Station 4, multiple credit cards, and IDs.
Planco will be booked at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has charged with Planco with failure to stop for blue lights and siren, reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle, grand larceny, burglary first, and financial transaction card theft.
Lott said Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office will bring their own appropriate charges.
Officials said Planco is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on several charges.
Three other inmates are still missing from Chesterfield County Detention Center. They are Deshawn Malik Fox, Kyonne Marquise McLeod, and Anton Conway Bennett.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and law enforcement partners across the state are assisting the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office in a search for the inmates.
