Four arrested after robbery in Cheraw ends with chase in Dillon County

Four males are in custody after a robbery at the Verizon store in Cheraw resulted in a chase on I-95 in Dillon County on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Cheraw Police Chief Julius Riley said the robbery occurred around 6:45 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Verizon Store in Cheraw.
Four male
suspects entered the store and got the employees’ attention. The employees opened the safe and gave the suspects thousands in cash and over 100 cell phones.
“No one was injured,” said Riley. “After they got what they wanted, they ran out the back door.”
Once police arrived on the scene, they talked with employees and notified surrounding law enforcement agencies
of the incident.
The suspects were found in the Dillon area where law enforcement there tried to stop them.
“The suspects fled to I-95, where they got in a high-speed chase with Dillon County officers,” said Riley. “
At one point, (the suspects were) throwing the weapons out of the windows. One of them struck the windshield of one of the patrol cars.”
As the chase continued, the suspects began throwing money and phones out of the vehicle.
“While chasing them, officers got to a point where they pitted the vehicle,” he said.
The suspects lost control and crashed. At this point, all four suspects were apprehended.
Riley said all of the suspects were from Dillon. One of them had a murder warrant in Dillon County.
The remaining three suspects were transported back to Cheraw and were charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and other weapons charges.
The suspects are being held in Cheraw awaiting a bond hearing. Later, they will be transported to the Chesterfield County Detention Center.
Riley noted officers were unable to retrieve much of the money or all of the phones that was thrown out of the suspects’ vehicle.
“P
eople on I-95 saw this and got out and started collecting the money,” he said.
