Cheraw Police arrests key suspect in recent shootings

Jamie Buchanan Jr

Cheraw Police arrested the alleged instigator in connection with the recent shootings.
Cheraw Police Julius Riley said Jamie “Jada-Boo” Buchanan Jr., was taken into custody on Friday, Jan. 10.
Buchanan was apprehended through a collaborative operation involving the Cheraw Police Department, the US Marshals Office, and the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Riley said the arrest stemmed from an intensive investigation led by Detective Sgt. Lonnie Leak, who worked closely with federal agencies to track down Buchanan and remove him from the streets.
Buchanan will face federal charges, which include armed robbery, kidnapping, and breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature. He will be facing additional charges from various jurisdictions in both North and South Carolina.
I know you have concerns about the recent shootings in our community— the dread of random shots in the middle of the night or the feelings of anxiety in just allowing your children to play outside,” said Riley in a Facebook post. “It is something our residents should not have to fear or experience.”
He thanked everyone for their patience and understanding while investigations were being conducted.
“Together we can make a difference and continue to make Cheraw a beautiful place to live,” he said.
