Cheraw man charged with multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a minor

Jeffrey Daniel Short

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children, arrested and charged a Cheraw man in connection with an investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse material.
Jeffrey Daniel Short, 39,  was arrested on Thursday, May 22, and formally charged with the following offenses: four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third-degree– possession of child sexual abuse material, and one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, second-degree – distribution of child sexual abuse material.
“Our agency remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community—our children,” said Sheriff Cambo Streater. “The exploitation of minors is a serious offense, and we will continue working with our local, state, and federal partners to identify and prosecute those involved.”
According to Streater, the investigation was led by Investigator Brittany Robinson with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office. Robinson also serves on the South Carolina Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The case originated from a CyberTipline report received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Streater said an extensive investigation was conducted to positively link Short to the CyberTipline information provided by NCMEC.
A search warrant executed at the suspect’s residence resulted in the seizure of multiple electronic devices. Forensic analysis of those devices confirmed the presence of exploitative material involving minors.
Streater said Short was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Detention Center.
Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office are continuing to investigate the case.
