Handgun, tobacco products found during cell searches at Chesterfield County Detention Center

Cell searches conducted at the Chesterfield County Detention Center on Aug. 23 led to the discovery of contraband and a loaded firearm.
Sheriff Cambo Streater said as a result of the searches, two tobacco products were found.
Investigations by the Sheriff’s Office led to charges of contraband, furnish, or possession, county or municipal prisons prohibited filed against three inmates.
He said charges against three other people will be forthcoming.
During the search, it was discovered that Zykemeon Nimir Davis of Dillon had smuggled a loaded Walther P22 handgun into the facility.
The Cheraw Police Department arrested Davis on Aug. 20 for shoplifting and resisting arrest. On Aug. 21, Davis had a bond hearing, was sentenced, and was transported by the Cheraw Police Department to be booked into the Chesterfield County Detention Center.
Davis has been charged as a result of the discovery, and no other criminal charges are anticipated at this time for any other persons.
Streater stated that the primary function of the Chesterfield County Detention Center is to ensure the safety of its employees, inmates, and the citizens of Chesterfield County.
“Our investigation into this incident revealed practices that are not consistent with this function and we are addressing internally through personnel action and training,” he said.
