One dead, one injured in early-morning shooting on U.S. 1
One person is dead and another is in critical condition following an early-morning shooting Saturday along U.S. Highway 1 adjacent to the Sand Trap, according to Chesterfield County Sheriff Cambo Streater.
Deputies were called to the scene around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, after reports of gunfire in the area. Once on the scene, deputies found two people had been shot.
“One of them was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was transported to Florence,” said Streater. “He is in critical condition.”
The sheriff said investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting.
“We are not 100 percent sure what happened yet,” he said.
At this time, investigators believe the two victims were the only people directly involved, though that could change as the investigation continues.
“We’re still investigating to see if any other people are involved,” said Streater.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to come forward.
“It was a large crowd of people out there, and I’m sure somebody knows something,” Streater said. “Please contact the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office if you know anything.”
Anyone with information regarding the shooting incident is urged to contact the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office tip line at (843) 287-0235.
