Peggy Perdue Burch

CHESTERFIELD – Mrs. Peggy Perdue Burch, age 89, entered into rest on Friday, August 13, 2021. Funeral services were held at 4:00 PM Sunday, August 15, 2021 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Fred McDaniel and Brent Taylor with burial following in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family greeted friends from 3:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burch was born August 24, 1931 in Chesterfield County, SC a daughter of the late Ed and Nezzie Coker Perdue. She was a retired employee of Sacony Industries and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Peggy enjoyed cooking, working in her flowers and gardening. A lady who loved her family dearly, Mrs. Burch was the matriarch of her family and was always there for all of them.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burch was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Ellis Burch; sons, James Ellis Burch, Jr., and Allen Burch; granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Burch, and Jennifer Brooke Burch.

Survivors include her sons, Timmy (Lori) Burch, and Charles Burch both of Chesterfield, SC; daughters-in-law, Barbara Burch, and Mary Burch both of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Chrissy (Michael) Shaw, Katy Burch, Skylar Burch, and Dustin Burch; great grandsons, Landon Shaw, Dalston Shaw, and Brooklyn Burch; brothers, Carrol Perdue, and Leverne (Crystal) Perdue both of Patrick, SC; special friend of the family, Lisa Zahler of Chesterfield, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special Thank You to the staff and administration of Cheraw Healthcare for the extraordinary love and care shown to Mrs. Burch and her family.

Teresa J. Davis

CHERAW – Mrs. Teresa J. Davis, 69, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. Born, June 2,1953 in Martinsville, VA, she was a daughter of the late William and Jane Sanford Jennings. Teresa was a Registered Nurse and enjoyed caring for people. She was a member of Saint David’s Church in Cheraw, where she was a member of the Choir, the Altar Guild, and in the Daughters of the King and the Knit Witts, which made prayer shawls for the sick. Mrs. Davis also volunteered at the Mercy in Me Free Medical Clinic in Cheraw.

She was preceded in death by her parents listed above.

Teresa leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Franklin H. Davis of the home; son, Franklin William Davis of El Paso, TX; a daughter, Jo Anne Throgmorton of El Paso, TX; a brother, Paul Jennings of Lincolnton, GA; a sister, Rebecca Verastegui, of Knoxville, TN; and grandchildren, Lilith, Charlie, and Julian.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Saint David’s Church in Cheraw, SC. The Family received friends, following the service at the church on Saturday.

Dorothy Wallace Lewis

CHERAW – Mrs. Dorothy Wallace Lewis, 84, died on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.  Born, October 10, 1936 in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Randolph and Lela Pressley Wallace. Dot was a dedicated lifetime member of Brock’s Mill Baptist Church and she retired from Highland Industries after 54 years of service. She was a hard worker, a wonderful cook, and enjoyed gardening.

Along with her parents, listed above, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sandy Lewis; a sister, Mae Brooks of Cummings, GA; brothers, Thomas Wallace of Vero Beach, FL and Willie Wallace of Cheraw, SC.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her two sisters, Sue Anderson and Sara L. Lewis both of Cheraw, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw. Burial followed at Brock’s Mill Baptist Church Cemetery in Cheraw, SC. The family received friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. just prior to the service at the funeral home.

Larry Jennings McLendon

CHERAW – Mr. Larry Jennings McLendon, 70, died on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.  Born, November 12, 1950 in Bennettsville, SC he was a son of Sara Louise Quick and the late Sam McLendon. Mr. McLendon served his country proudly in the United States Army. He was also an officer with the Cheraw Police Dept. for 10 years, a Military Police, and a Lieutenant in Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands for three years. After his retirement, he worked as a Security Guard part time for the Schaeffler Group in Cheraw. Larry was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Cheraw, SC and enjoyed manicuring his lawn, and riding through the country weekly with his wife. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves Fan and enjoyed collecting merchandise from the team.

Along with his father, listed above, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tony McLendon.

Larry leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 26 years, Selma Freeman McLendon of the home; his mother, Sara Louise Quick McLendon of Patrick, SC; a son, Bart McLendon (Suzanne) of Aiken, SC; step-children, Sheila Moskal (Troy) of Cheraw, SC, Dean Edwards (Tammy) of Florence, SC, Michelle Wright (Dion) of Bennettsville, SC, and Melissa Roscoe (Bobby) of Cheraw, SC; a sister, Kathy McLendon Adams of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Braeden McLendon, Brandi Schoen (Adam), Justin Walls, Jonathan Walls, Kami Walls, Sierrika Sutton (Randolph), Kyzer Wright (Fallon), Savannah Jackson (Hayden), Bree Roscoe, Alyssa Edwards, Laural Edwards, Rayne Munn, and Hunter Munn; great-grandchildren, Tinzlee Sutton, Blazlee Sutton, Tyree Lindsey, A.J. Schoen, Sarah Walls, Dahlia Riggs, and Phoenix Riggs; and his dog, Rusty.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the Church of the Latter Day Saints in Cheraw. Burial followed in the Latter Day Saints Cemetery in Society Hill, SC. The family received friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, just prior to the service at the church.

Dorethea ‘Judy’ McFarlin McDuffie

CHESTERFIELD – Dorethea “Judy” McFarlin McDuffie, 79, died Sunday, August 8, 2021. Graveside service was held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 2PM from the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC.  She was born in Chesterfield, South Carolina to the late Mack and Annie Belle Diggs McFarlan.  Survivors: step-sons, Nathaniel Bolds (Carman), Madison, VA, and Thomas Bates (Tawanna) Woodbridge, VA; step-daughter, Janice Walker, Currie, NC; grandchildren Kenneth McFarlin (Demetra), Cheraw, SC; Gregory Young  Jr., Chesterfield, SC and Macie Walker, Jacksonville, NC; eight other grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, sister, Genora Dixon, Chesterfield, SC; sisters-in-law, Josie Wright Atkinson, NC and Mary Galloway, Washington, DC; special nephew, Terry Dixon, Chesterfield, SC; special niece, Linda McFarland, Blythewood, SC. Baxter V. ‘Bo’ Melton

RUBY – Mr. Baxter V. “Bo” Melton, age 90, entered into rest on Friday, August 13, 2021. Graveside services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 15, 2021 at White Oak Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Rev. Charlie Short. The family greeted friends following the service at the cemetery.

Mr. Melton was born February 5, 1931 in Ruby, SC a son of the late Kirby C. and Addie Rhyne Melton. He was a retired employee of Cannon Mills with over 30 years of service and the retired owner and operator of Bo’s Produce in Chesterfield for over 27 years. A faithful member of White Oak Presbyterian Church, Bo served as a former Men’s Sunday School teacher, Elder, Deacon, Session member, Cemetery Committee member, and on various other committees through the years. A man who never met a stranger, “Mr. Bo” was truly a friend to all.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Melton was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jerome Melton, and K.C. Melton.

Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 73 years, Frances Melton of the home; children, Brenda Melton (Larry) Biggers of West Union, SC, Richard “Rick” (Denise) Melton of Wadesboro, NC, and Regina Melton (Don) Prunty of Vinton, VA; grandchildren, Susan (Mark) Merrill, Melissa (Tim) Manning, Shanna (Dustin) Jackson, Kayla (Travis) Marsh, Beau (Raven) Melton, and Cierra Melton; 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Troy (Doris) Melton, and Maurice “Bud” Melton; sisters, Estelle Sullivan, and Betty Short; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special Thank You to caregivers, Margie Jordan, Darlene Stogner, Jean Melton, Darlene Myers, Audrey Powell, Janice Palmer, Heather Cope, the staff of Compassion Home Care, FirstLight Home Care of Lancaster, and the staff and administration of Cheraw Health Care for the extraordinary love and care shown to Mr. Bo and their family.

Martha Mae Miller

JEFFERSON – Martha Mae Miller, 81, died Monday, August 9, 2021.  Graveside service was held, Friday, August 13, 2021, at 11AM from the Miller Cemetery, Jefferson, SC.  She was born October 18, 1939, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina to the late Marshall and Axie McMillian Miller. Survivors: daughters: Jacqueline D. Miller Sims and Gwendolyn S. Riddick; granddaughter: Deborah Weston (Parrish); great grandsons: Parrish, Antonio and Zhy’Sean, Windsor, NC; great granddaughter: Paris, Windsor, NC; sister: Genevieve M. Eva Mae Walters

BENNETTSVILLE – Mrs. Eva Mae Walters, 94, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021. Born, in Wallace, SC, on March 29, 1927 she was a daughter of the late Walter Lee and Hettie Roscoe Haire. Mrs. Walters was a Charter Member of White’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Wallace, SC and a homemaker who loved her family dearly. She also enjoyed playing the piano, singing, crocheting, puzzles, and gardening her flowers.

Along with her parents, listed above, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis Everette Walters; a son, Carlton Gene Walters, a daughter, Sandra Gail Hall; brothers, Alan Haire, Wilson Haire, and Baxter Haire; sisters, Laura McLendon, Evelyn Roberts, Elaine Haire, and Bernice Oxendine.

Mrs. Walters leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sons, JT Haire (Evelyn) of Bennettsville, SC, William Walters (Kay) of Bennettsville, SC, Charles Louvet of Thomasville, NC, and Michael DeHart of Arizona; daughters, Kathy Walters, of Bennettsville, SC, Karen Spaul of High Point, NC, and Tanya Garcia of Wallace, SC; sisters, Doris Haire of Wallace, SC, and Louise Rivers of Wallace, SC; nineteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at White’s Creek Freewill Baptist Church in Wallace. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at White’s Creek Baptist Church in Wallace, SC, and other time at the home of William and Kay Walters, 305 Wilder Road West, Bennettsville, SC 29512.
