Charles Anthony ‘Andy’ Gaddy
Mr. Charles Anthony “Andy” Gaddy, age 67, of Chesterfield, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Shiloh Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeff Gardner and Brent Taylor officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Friends visited the family from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.
Born on May 3, 1959, in Chesterfield, Mr. Gaddy was the son of the late Perry Ray Gaddy and Jeanette Watson Brigman. He graduated from Chesterfield High School in 1978 and earned his welding certification from Chesterfield–Marlboro Technical College. Mr. Gaddy began his career at Tenner Brothers Winery and subsequently worked with Fredrickson Trucking and the Town of Pageland. For the past 28 years, he served as a water distribution operator with Chesterfield County Rural Water Company.
A devoted lifelong member of Shiloh Methodist Church, Mr. Gaddy served as Trustee and led the church security team. He was also a member of Chesterfield Masonic Lodge #220 and a Shriner with Omar Shriners. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed farming and hunting and was a dedicated advocate for the well-being of all animals.
Mr. Gaddy loved his family deeply. He was the proud “Campaign Manager” for his wife, Christy F. Gaddy, throughout her consecutive terms as Chesterfield County Clerk of Court. Among his many roles, he treasured most being “Pa G” to his grandson, Beauford “Bo-Bo” Gaddy, with whom he shared weekly Friday morning breakfasts at Gardner Brothers BBQ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Gaddy Rivers, and infant brother, Richard Ray Gaddy.
Mr. Gaddy is survived by his wife of nearly 18 years, Christy F. Gaddy; son, Richard Anthony (Jennifer) Gaddy; grandson, Beauford “Bo-Bo” Gaddy; step-son, James “Ryan” (Danielle) Sellers; step-father, Beauford Brigman; step-mother, Eva Mae Brigman; brother-in-law, Rev. Robert Rivers; father- and mother-in-law, Rev. Donnie and Sissy Faulkenbury; special family friend, Doug Updegrave; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved pets including his dog “Squirt,” donkey “Solomon,” and cats “Mac” and “Missy.”
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield for their compassionate care and support along this journey.

Polly Tipton Griggs
Polly Tipton Griggs was born April 26, 1936 in Gate City, VA to Morgan and Nora H. Darnell. She met and married her sweetheart Sidney Elbert Tipton on September 6, 1951. Shortly after Sidney got a job in Wayne, NJ with Burlington Industries. They resided in NJ from 1952 to 1960. Polly worked with a company called Tungsten in New Jersey that produced radio and television tubes. Through the years of marriage, they were blessed with three children: Frances, Charles and David.
Sidney got an offer to transfer to Cheraw in 1960 with Burlington and Polly went to work with A&P Grocery in Cheraw until they closed the doors. She went to Socony for a couple of years and then to Stanton Quilting of Cheraw for 27 years, retiring at 67 years old.
Polly made many dear friends there but one was closer than a sister, her name is Virginia “Pug” Quick. A most precious, supportive angel that God could ever send her way. She was blessed by loving friends such as Gloria Leviner, Janie Monroe, Judy Turner, Minnie Burroughs, Louise Jones, Mary Lynn Melton, Wanda Langley, Sue Wescott, Toni Anderson and so many others that won’t be forgotten.
Polly enjoyed cooking and baking especially cakes, pies, and cupcakes for the Youth Groups at Lower Macedonia and functions at Wallace Baptist Church and many, many Sunday dinners after church for family and friends and especially for the children’s friends with bottomless stomachs.
Sidney died with lung cancer in 1985. After several years Polly met and married Jessie Ervin Griggs known as PaPa Ted. They enjoyed 17 years together. He passed in 2007 with a massive heart attack. A wonderful God fearing man that was a blessing to have as a stepfather. He served God and family faithfully.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Polly Tipton Griggs was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sidney Elbert Tipton of 34 years and beloved husband Jessie Ervin (Ted) Griggs of 17 years. Also, a great grandchild Dana Johnson.
Mrs. Griggs was also preceded in death by brothers, Eugene Darnell and Jerry Darnell.
Survivors left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Frances T. Boatwright (Robert Wayne) of Cheraw, SC, sons, Charles R. Tipton (Susan) of Cheraw, SC, David A. Tipton (Nancy) of Gibson, NC, grandchildren, Bryan Sidney Tipton (Lauren Laney ) of Cheraw, SC, Jennifer Eddins (Jackson) of Chesterfield, SC, Anthony W. Boatwright of Hickory Grove, SC, Brent W. Boatwright of Cheraw, SC, Adam Boatwright (Helen) of Charleston, SC, Tonya L Tipton of Cheraw, SC, Phillip Tipton of Greenville, SC, great grandchildren, Kylie Eddins, Sydney Eddins, Ellie Tipton, Reed Tipton, Robert C. Boatwright, Wesley T. Boatwright, Brenlee Ann Boatwright, Emma Riley Boatwright, Kaylynn Quick, Cassie Teal, Kylar Tipton, Holdun Tipton, Mickey Johnson, a great great grandchild, Tyson Tipton and a brother, Fred Darnell. Also, numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice Crowley Martin
WALLACE — Alice Crowley Martin, age 73, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Born in Marlboro County, she was the daughter of the late Howard Evans and Pauline Mildred Walters Crowley.
Alice retired after many years of dedicated work in both the textile and grocery retail industries. She was a former employee of Delta Mills, where she formed many lasting friendships. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including cooking, cleaning, cross-stitching, crocheting, and gardening. She especially loved preparing hearty meals and taking care of those around her. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family and her beloved “fur babies.”
She is survived by her husband, Samuel A. Martin of the home; sons, Chad E. Hood (Dawn) of Cheraw, SC, Shawn Crowley (Heather) of Summerville, SC, and Arnie Darrell Martin (Michele) of Society Hill, SC; daughters, Carey Ann Martin of Columbia, SC, and Gay Lynn Martin Davis of Society Hill, SC; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her cherished Chihuahua, “Peanut.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Billie Jean Martin, and her sisters, Janie Locklear and Mildred Walters.
The family received friends Friday, June 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.
A funeral service was held Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Kiser Funeral Home, with burial following in Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Wallace, SC.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Olin Morrison
In Memoriam
It is with deep sorrow that the Morrison family announces the death of Mr. Olin Morrison, 89. Mr. Morrison entered into rest on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
A funeral service to honor his life was held at 3 o’clock on Sunday, June 7th, 2026 in Union Methodist Church. The Rev. Charlie Short and The Rev. Dale McCluney officiated followed by burial in the McBee Cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday, June 6th, 2026 at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel in Hartsville.
Mr. Morrison was born on Sunday, December 20th, 1936, in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. He is the son of Daniel Angus Morrison, Sr. and Marie Stokes Morrison.
Olin was a 1955 graduate of McBee High School where he was a member of the football team, the FFA and vice-president of the Senior Class.
After graduation, he was initially employed as a telephone lineman for AT&T.
In 1965, he began his career with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service at Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge in McBee, SC as a biological technician and equipment operator. In his almost twenty-year career there, he was dedicated to wildlife conservation and loved sharing God’s natural creation with the general public and mentoring future generations. His practical knowledge added to the importance of research to protect and preserve endangered species.
Expanding his mechanical skills, Olin ventured into a career in industrial maintenance. Later, forming his own company, McBee Mechanical and Fabrication, he serviced a variety of local industries and enjoyed providing opportunities to skilled young men.
Upon retirement, he returned full-time to his childhood love of farming and raising livestock. With his son David, he enjoyed several decades of agricultural ownership. Caring for and training his many horses and mules brought him great joy which was shared with others as he participated in local parades and festivals. He especially enjoyed riding with his brother Frank and sponsoring young people in rodeo competitions and youth sports teams.
Olin was a member of Union Methodist Church which he faithfully supported as an older adult. He was past president of the Men’s Club and a member of the choir. He served as an active trustee for many years. He especially enjoyed the friendships he shared within his Sunday school class and the Senior Citizens JOY Club.
Surviving relatives include his loving wife of 69 years, Kathryn Jones Morrison; daughters, Frances (Dale) McCluney and Mary Ann (Rod) Ellison; son, Ralph (Loren Brumbaugh) Morrison; granddaughters, Tara (Richard) Harris and Alexandra McCluney; great-granddaughters, Harper and Mary Harris; as well as, Jason (Ann) Crowley whose professionalism complemented Olin’s work ethic and style and cemented a lasting friendship.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Olin David Morrison; brothers John E. Morrison, Mendel L. Morrison, Daniel A. Morrison, Jr. and Franklin D. Morrison; sisters Amy L. Morrison, Elizabeth Frostick and Frances Morrison.
The family would like to express their gratitude to members of the McLeod Hospice Care team in Cheraw and to Dr. Smith and staff with the McLeod Oncology Center in Florence, all of whom provided support and gentle care during his illness. A special thank you is extended to Mike and Loretta Tiller whose loving friendship was demonstrated consistently over the past two years.
Pallbearers were Richard Morrison, Martin Morrison, John Morrison, Franklin Morrison, Luke Morrison, Philip Gardner, Bobby Helms and Billy Pritchard.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Davis, Danny Gaskins, Ken Lewis, Petey Mason, Jack Raley and Allen Teal.

Merle Ward Whitt
CHERAW — Merle Ward Whitt, 93, died Monday, June 8, 2026. Born in Sugar Grove, NC she was the daughter of the late Carl Hal and Clara Clay Ward. She was the widow of E. Merle Whitt. She was retired from James Fabrics (Burlington Industries). Mrs. Whitt was a member of Cheraw First Baptist Church, the Victory Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Surviving are her sons, Edward Hal (Sarah) Whitt of Spartanburg, SC, Richard Clinton (Nancee) Whitt of Chattanooga, TN, grandchildren, Zachary Edward (Julia) Whitt, Jacob Alexander (Erica) Whitt, great grand children Jacob Alexander Whitt, II, and Hannah Elizabeth Whitt, brothers, Charles William Ward of Dublin, VA, Harold Wayne Ward of Dublin, VA, and a sister in law, Joey W. Ward of Dublin VA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above and a sister in law, Bonnie S. Ward.
The family received friends 12 noon to 1:00 PM, Friday, June 12, 2026 in the foyer of the family life center of Cheraw First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.
