Charles ‘Larry’ Haynes
Charles “Larry” Haynes, 78, of Cheraw, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Born in Florence, SC, Larry was the beloved son of the late Maxie Furman Haynes and Annie Mae McCutchen Haynes.
A 1966 graduate of McClenaghan High School in Florence, Larry furthered his education by earning an Associate Degree from Florence-Darlington Technical College. He also completed studies at the South Carolina Bankers School and The Banking School of the South at Louisiana State University.
Larry honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam War, reflecting his deep pride as an American and Veteran. Throughout his life, he was actively involved in his community, including memberships in the Columbia Sertoma Club, Chester Rotary Club, and leadership roles such as President of the Saluda Jaycees and Treasurer of the Cheraw Rotary Club. He also contributed his expertise as a board member for the South Carolina Economic Development Corporation and the Catawba Regional Development Board Corporation.
A devoted member of Brock’s Mill Baptist Church, Larry served faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, and choir member. His professional career included 23 years with First Citizens Bank followed by 21 years at Edward Jones Financial Investments before retiring. He enjoyed an active lifestyle, particularly playing tennis and golf.
Larry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda Hatcher Haynes of Cheraw; his sons, Chuck Haynes (Kate) of Fort Mill, SC, and Scott Johnson of Cheraw, SC; daughters, Renee Holstein (Britt) of Chapin, SC, and Nicole Gulledge (Kip) of Ruby, SC; brother Jimmy Haynes (Linda) of Florence, SC; grandchildren Ryan Haynes, Jacob Haynes, Caylen Michels, Brennan Gulledge, Hunter Johnson, Braden Johnson, Olivia Johnson, Anna Holstein, and Thomas Holstein; and niece Tiffany Haynes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ronald Haynes and Tony Haynes, and sister Patsy Granger.
Larry’s legacy of service, community involvement, and dedication to family will be cherished by all who knew him.
The family received friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Kiser Funeral Home.
