Virginia ‘Jenny’ Parker Hicks

SOCIETY HILL — Virginia “Jenny” Parker Hicks, 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Born, July 22, 1947, in Chesterfield County, SC, she was a daughter of the late George Parker and Mary Johnson Purvis.

Jenny was known for her outgoing and spirited nature, always bringing laughter and joy to those around her. She possessed a genuine warmth that quickly dispelled any sense of unfamiliarity, making her presence a source of comfort and happiness. A devoted caretaker, Jenny dedicated herself to the well-being of her family, providing unwavering support especially during times of illness. She cherished family gatherings and was fond of preparing Sunday dinners that brought loved ones together.

Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, George Parker and Jake and Mary Purvis; her son, Donnie Lynn Hicks; brothers, George Bogan Parker, Piper Parker, Jake Parker, Joel Purvis, Randy Purvis, Larry Purvis, Robbie Purvis, and Bobby Purvis; and sisters, Mary Joyce “Buck” Grooms, Retha Chapman, and Patricia Coleman.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 59 years, Johnny Lee Hicks; daughter, Mary Darlene James and husband, Paul of Society Hill, SC; grandchildren, Carmen Garrett and husband, Tyler of Moncks Corner, SC and Selena Chapman and husband, Dusty of Cheraw, SC; and great-grandchildren, Rowan Garrett and Avery Garrett.

A funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Welsh Neck Baptist Church in Society Hill, SC. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.

Kiser Funeral Home has been entrusted to serve the Hicks family in their time of grief.

Amy Wood Stokes

CHESTERFIELD — Mrs. Amy Wood Stokes, age 57, entered into rest on Thursday, April 9, 2026. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Old Peniel Cemetery by Rev. Donald Wallace. The family will greet friends following the service in the cemetery.

Mrs. Stokes was born on March 18, 1969 in Chesterfield, SC the daughter of Brenda Johnson Wood and the late Gerald Wood. Amy had a truly nurturing spirit and found great joy in caring for those she loved; especially her parents. She took pride in preparing meals for her family, expressing her love through her cooking. Amy also had a special place in her heart for animals, and she cherished her Chihuahuas and cats dearly.

In addition to her father, Amy was preceded in death by her sister, Ellen Tyner.

She is survived by her husband, Jeff Bryant; son, Drew Stokes of Rockingham, NC; mother, Brenda J. Wood of Chesterfield, SC; siblings, Susie Trexler of Chesterfield, SC, Jeff (Toni) Wood of Cheraw, SC; brothers-in-law, Wayne Bryant of Chesterfield, SC, Mike (Patsy) Bryant of Society Hill, SC, Tom (Brenda) Bryant of Wallace, SC, Tony Bryant of Wallace, SC; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Henry) Griggs of Cheraw, SC; nephews, Adam Johnson, Josh (Mandi) and their family, Stephen Bryant; niece, Lisa Linton; and great-nephew, Zane Johnson.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to her caretakers, doctors, and nurses at Gentiva Hospice; as well as her special caretaker, Kathleen Hooper.
