Thomas Ash Jr.

CHESTERFIELD – Thomas Ash, Jr., 85, died Saturday, May 21, 2022. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 1pm from the Flemming Funeral Chapel, Chesterfield SC. He was born August 27, 1936 in Cheraw, SC to the late Gracie Chapman Ashe and Thomas Ashe Sr. Survivors: sons, William (JoAnne) Ash and Danny (Donna) Ash; daughters Barbara (Tony) Roots and Shirley Ash; sisters, Loretta (Howard) Rogers, Carolyn Smith, and Thomasine Simmons; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals- Chesterfield. James Arthur Bostic Jr.

CHERAW – James Arthur Bostic, Jr., 58, died Saturday, May 28, 2022.  Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 3PM from the New St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Blenheim, SC. Burial followed in the Word of Life Memorial Gardens, Bennettsville, SC.

He born July 22, 1963 in Dillon, SC to James Bostic, Sr. and Jessie Bostic. Survivors: his father, James A. Bostic, Sr., two daughters, Kadesha Bostic and Shaunell (Phillip) Brent, and three grandchildren, Shanice Bostic, Kaiya Bethea, and Darius Bethea. Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Cheraw. Norman “Butchie” Delmis Harris, Jr.

CHERAW – Mr. Norman “Butchie” Delmis Harris, Jr., 50, died on Sunday, May 29, 2022. Born, February 21, 1972, in Cheraw, SC, he was the son of the late Norman Delmis Harris, Sr. and the late Evelyn Sue Cagle. Norman enjoyed cooking, being around his family and their kids as well as helping others.  He also liked NASCAR and motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above.

Butchie leaves behind to cherish his memory, a son, Dylan Walters of Maryland; aunts, Mary Roscoe and husband, Carlton of Cheraw, SC and Darlene Cagle and husband, Mitchell Dunn of Cheraw, SC; cousins, Brooke Mabry and husband, Jeremy of Cheraw, SC, Amber Roscoe of Cheraw, SC, Katie Roscoe of Cheraw, SC, Daniel Cagle of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Timmy Cagle of Maryland, Carley Roscoe of Cheraw, SC and Wendy Cagle of Maryland; and several other family members and friends.

The family will have a private service at a later date.

William L. Jefferson

LAWNSIDE, N.J. – William L. Jefferson, 74, died Wednesday, May 18, 2022.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 2PM from the Pee Dee Union Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.  Military Honors, Committal and Burial followed in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cheraw, SC.  He was born July 13, 1947 in Chesterfield, SC to the late Legette Jefferson, Sr. and Alice Marion Blakeney Jefferson. Survivors: his wife, Joanne T. Jefferson; two daughters; Conchita Vargas of Philadelphia, PA, and Rosita Corbin of Lawnside, NJ; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, son-in-law (Don Corbin), five brothers, five sisters. Mary Sowell Jenkins

CHESTERFIELD – Mary Sowell Jenkins, 76, died Sunday, May 29, 2022. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 3PM from the Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial followed in the St. James A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC. She was born August 19, 1945, in Chesterfield, SC to the late Thomas Sowell and Alice Pegues. Survivors: her husband, Scipio Jenkins of the home; sons, Derwin Jenkins, Monroe, NC, Kelvin Jenkin, Chesterfield, SC, Michael Jenkins, Chesterfield, SC and Reginald Jenkins, Chesterfield, SC; daughter, Lakavia (Andre) Wilson, Chesterfield, SC; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, James Sowell, Washington, DC, Walter Sowell, Chesterfield, SC, and Lee Sowell, Cheraw, SC. Elizabeth Cloud ‘Betty’ Malloy

Elizabeth Cloud Malloy, “Betty”, age 94, died May 9, 2022, in Charlotte, NC.
Born February 3, 1928, in Lilesville, NC, Betty was a daughter of the late Fayette Jeffries and Mary Dryer Cloud. She was married in 1949 to John Wilson Malloy, Jr. of Cheraw, SC, who predeceased her in 1988.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Cloud Malloy of Mill Spring, NC, and Louise Malloy Bonner (James Archibald Stuart Bonner) of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, James Archibald Stuart Bonner Jr. (Martha) of Charlotte and Wilson Malloy Bonner of Salt Lake City, UT; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Baker Bonner Covington (Alec) of Charlotte, and three great grandsons, James Archibald Stuart Bonner III, William Martin Bonner and Harrison Baker Covington, all of Charlotte.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by an infant son, her sister Martha Cloud Chapman and her brothers, Fayette Jeffries Cloud, Jr. and Percy Dryer Cloud.
Known as “Memaw” to her family, she was cherished for her open mind, compassion and funny sense of humor. She was wise, practical and full of unconditional love and affection.
A memorial service was held May 31, 2022, at 11:00am at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte, NC 28207. Interment will be private in Old St. David’s Cemetery, Cheraw, SC.

Markus Rayvon McBride

CHERAW – Markus Rayvon McBride, 34, died Thursday, May 26, 2022. A Celebration of Life Service was held at the family home on Saturday, June 4, 2022. He was born April 18, 1988 in Fort Huachuca, Arizona to son of Charlene Ratliff and Reginald McBride. Survivors: mother, Charlene Ratliff (Michael), Cheraw, SC; father, Reginald McBride (Robin), Baltimore, MD; fiancé, Shatoya Garvin, Loris, SC; daughter, Shanyiah Walters, Loris, SC; sisters, Regina McBride, Cheraw, SC, Michaela Ratliff, Devin Ratliff, and Deja (Matt) Tart, Wallace, NC; brother, Michael Ratliff, Jr., Cheraw, SC; paternal grandparents, Mildred and Julius McBride, Ruby, SC. Alton F. Quick

BENNETTSVILLE – Mr. Alton F. Quick passed away at The Greens at Pinehurst in Pinehurst, North Carolina on Friday, June 3, 2022. He was 78 years old.

Born May 10, 1944, he was the son of the late Worth and Helen Hubbard Quick. He was a manager in the industrial fabrication industry for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family and especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Quick was preceded in death by his parents listed above and nine siblings.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Carolyn Heyward Quick;  son, Todd Bethea (Patricia);  sister, Linda Norton;  grandson, Ryan Bethea (Tiffany);  granddaughter, Lindsay Bethea; great grandson, Avery Armfield; and multiple nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Park.

Robert Calvin Rollins

CHERAW – Mr. Robert Calvin Rollins, age 76, entered into rest on Monday, May 30, 2022 at his home. Graveside services were held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Old St. David’s Cemetery by his nephew, The Reverend Jay Gibson. The family greeted friends following the graveside service.

Family and Friends could stop by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home on Friday, June 3, 2022 between the hours of 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM to pay their respects.

Mr. Rollins was born February 28, 1946 in Patrick, SC a son of the late Robert Eulah and Attie Blanche Jordan Rollins. He was a graduate of Cheraw High School and the retired manager of Palmetto Casket Company with over 35 years of service. He was formerly employed with Bennett Motor Company as a Parts Manager. Calvin enjoyed playing golf but his greatest pastime was spending time with his family. He enjoyed family vacations and his greatest title was being “Pa-Pa” to his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rollins was also preceded in death by sisters, Faye Newsome, and Joyce Threatt; and brother-in-law, John Harrison Sartor, Sr.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 57 years, Beverly S. Rollins of the home; 3 children, R. Chris (Tina) Rollins of Bethlehem, NC, Meg R. Norton of Cheraw, SC, and William Calvin “Will” (Amanda) Rollins of Darlington, SC; grandchildren, Corbin (Samantha) Norton of Cheraw, SC, McKinley Rollins, Aubrey Rollins, Emma Rollins, and Bo Rollins all of Darlington, SC; great grandchild, Kirkleigh Norton; sister, Wanda Sartor of Cheraw, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved grand dogs.

The family is grateful for the exceptional love and care provided to Calvin by his wonderful caregivers, Debbie Cowart, Natalie Curtis, Taylor Curtis, and the staff of Regency SouthernCare Hospice of Chesterfield.
