ATI, a global aerospace and defense leader, has opened its 125,000-square-foot facility in Pageland.
A ribbon cutting was held on Wednesday, Aug. 13, for community and state leaders.
ATI’s new facility, located at 340 Industrial Park in the Lynches River Industrial Park, produces titanium alloy sheet.
Technically challenging to produce, titanium alloy sheet is critical to airframe manufacturers, bringing strength and durability to aerostructure components and assemblies. The company recently announced long-term agreements with Airbus and Boeing for materials produced at this facility.
The facility will employ nearly 70 people when at full production.
ATI’s existing presence in the Carolinas includes a specialty materials production facility in Richburg and several facilities in Monroe, North Carolina.
ATI President and CEO Kimberly A. Fields said the Pageland facility is fully online and in production.
“ATI now offers a full complement of titanium materials, producing quality titanium sheets wider and longer than anyone in the industry,” said Fields. “We appreciate South Carolina’s support for our expansion and look forward to partnering with them for decades to come. This new offering further extends both ATI’s and South Carolina’s position as an aerospace leader, giving customers extraordinary manufacturing capability and flexibility.”
Libby Lear, director of economic development for Chesterfield County, said she was excited for ATI to be in the county.
“We are so happy that you are here as a global leader in aerospace and defense,” said Lear. “The titanium alloy sheets that you are producing here will be in almost any aircraft.”
State Sen. Allen Blackmon, District 27, said he appreciated ATI’s decision to come and be part of the community.
“This means good jobs, great benefits and a stronger economy. We look forward to the momentum that you bring to this industrial park,” said Blackmon.
Jason Evans, mayor of Pageland, said he brought a unique perspective as he worked at the company in Monroe in 1995. His father retired from ATI after working for 20 years and worked part-time for five years after retirement.
“ATI’s long-term agreement to supply to Boeing and Airbus means our community is now directly connected to (the) global chain, building materials that will help aircraft fly higher, faster and safer,” said Evans.
Tom DeLuca, president of ATI Specialty Rolled Products, said Chesterfield County is getting a premier facility that is one of five in the world.
“We are developing a product that is one of the highest technological products to produce in the whole realm of titanium product mix,” he said.
He thanked the hourly employees of the facility for getting them to the point where they are, getting them there safely, and getting them there in an environmentally responsible fashion.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits related to the project. The council also awarded a $550,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant to Chesterfield County to assist with the costs of building improvements.
Chesterfield County Council Chair Mary Anderson said the county celebrates ATI’s global specialty materials business located in Lynches River Industrial Park.
“This facility underscores our county’s strengths in workforce readiness, infrastructure, and business climate,” she said. “ATI’s transformative investment here reflects confidence in our ability to support advanced manufacturing for the critical sectors of aerospace and defense.”
