The Cheraw Arts Commission will host Music & Art on the Green from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19.
The event will feature local artists creating art en plein air (painting outdoors), while Kris Houser, a guitarist and visual artist, has taught art at Chesterfield County Schools.
There will be a different musician each month at the event. The Cheraw Arts Commission will be providing sketch pads and pencils for those who want to create artwork at the event. Everyone is welcome to attend and can bring their lunch, lawn chairs, and blankets to the event.
“Individuals should attend this event if they enjoy being outside and listening to music,” said Lindsay Bennett, executive director.
Houser enjoys playing music at this event.
“I enjoy playing at these types of events because music is in my soul. If I wasn’t playing at events, then I’d be playing at home,” he said.
The guitarist has been performing for audiences for about 40 years. He has played at multiple venues, including the Jazz Festival in Cheraw, Pee Dee Land Trust, and the Grateful Dog Festival in Florence. He is a member of a bluegrass band called Longleaf Social Club. He is also a member of a rock band called Rawtown Ramblers.
Houser encourages individuals to attend the event.
“I think this event is a nice thing for the Cheraw Arts Commission to offer to individuals in the community. It doesn’t cost anything to attend the event. If you’re in the area, grab a lunch, and come listen to some music on the historic town green,” he said.
This is a great opportunity for individuals to enjoy creating artwork or music with other individuals in the community.
Registration is not required to attend this event.
