Investigation leads to arrest for false report

Staneisha Johnson

A Cheraw woman was arrested after investigators determined she fabricated a series of threatening messages and falsely reported them to law enforcement, according to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Sheriff Cambo Streater, Staneisha Johnson, 25, reported to deputies on March 12 that she had been receiving threatening messages from multiple individuals.
The messages allegedly included threats of harm toward Johnson, her unborn child, and her family members, along with personal identifying information and images of her residence.
Due to the serious nature of the allegations, an investigation was immediately initiated.
Streater said investigators interviewed the individuals identified in Johnson’s complaint, all of whom denied any involvement. A review of the available evidence did not support Johnson’s allegations.
Streater said further investigation found that Johnson had filed a similar report with the Cheraw Police Department.
In coordination with Detective L. Leak of the Cheraw Police Department and the execution of legal process

through his investigation, investigators were able to obtain account information related to one of the phone numbers used to send the messages
Streater said during a follow-up interview, Johnson consented to a search of her cellphone. Investigators say they discovered evidence linking her to a spoofed phone number application used to generate the threatening messages.

Streater said the investigation revealed that Johnson had created multiple spoofed phone-number accounts and sent the messages to herself, falsely attributing them to others. Investigators also allege the activity dates back to early 2025.
Johnson was
arrested and charged with filing a false police report. She was booked into the Chesterfield County Detention Center. Cellular devices were seized as evidence and will undergo further forensic examination.
“This case highlights the seriousness of making false reports to law enforcement,” said S
treater. “Our investigators thoroughly examine every complaint to ensure the truth is uncovered and resources are used appropriately.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be pending.
