George Edward Adams

CHERAW — George Edward Adams, 70, passed away on November 19, 2025. Born in Laurinburg, NC, he was the son of the late John Erwin and Frances Virginia Adams.

A dedicated member of his community, George was a longtime member at First United Methodist Church of Cheraw, the Lions Club, and the Cheraw High School Booster Club. He graduated from Scotland High School in Laurinburg in 1973 and went on to earn a degree in Speech Communications and Broadcasting from Appalachian State University in 1977.

George dedicated his life to radio, serving his community first at WLNC in Laurinburg, NC, and later at WCRE in Cheraw, SC. For nearly 50 years he was a beloved voice on the airwaves and wore many “radio-hats” including founding and being the voice of the “Saturday Morning Quarterback,” play-by-play and color analyst of Cheraw Braves football and the comical “Morning Mess with Jay and George” morning show. Most recently he was honored as a Friday Night Braves Legend. George also enjoyed a successful 21-year career in sales at Palmetto Brick.

An avid enthusiast of all things NASA, The Beatles and history, George had a considerable collection of books that reflected his passion for these subjects. He shared his love of rocketry with his children and grandchildren. George was especially known for his extensive knowledge of Cheraw Football and a deep-seated admiration for the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest University.

George is survived by his wife, Debbie Brasington Adams; his son, John Erwin Adams (Rachel) of Zephyrhills, FL; his daughter, Laura Adams McGriff (Dustin) of Sumter, SC; and his sister, Grace Adams Bean (Chris).
