Multi-agency car chase ends in arrest

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a car chase earlier today that ended up involving multiple agencies and resulted in the arrest of the driver.

A statement from Sheriff James (JD) Dixon said a patrol deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle on Highway 151 in McBee, but the driver failed to stop.

In the ensuing car chase, deputies saw items believed to be drugs and possibly drug paraphernalia being thrown out of a window.

The car chase went through Darlington County and ended in Florence County.

The driver of the speeding vehicle, 21-year-old Sidney Canty, was charged with failure to stop for blue lights, simple possession of marijuana, speeding and driving without a license.

“I thank the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, Darlington Police Department and Florence County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this apprehension,” said Dixon.
