Controlled burn temporarily closes portions of Cheraw State Park

Camp Forest Road in Cheraw State Park will be closed to visitors Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, as crews conduct controlled burns of about 640 acres (Unit E) and 319 acres (Unit I), weather permitting.

The primary objectives of the burns are to reduce fuel loads, which help prevent catastrophic wildfire like the Pinnacle Mountain Wildfire in 2016, and to improve wildlife habitat.

These efforts will involve the Nature Conservancy and S.C. State Park Service.

More information will be posted as details become available.
