Sally Hinson Adams

JEFFERSON – Mrs. Sally Hinson Adams, age 65, entered into rest on January 30, 2021. A private family graveside service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery by Pastor Rick Hunter and Pastor David Sanders.

Mrs. Adams was born August 11, 1955 in Monroe, NC a daughter of the late Joseph Thomas Hinson, Sr. and Ruth Plyer Hinson. She attended Winthrop University and Francis Marion University attaining her undergraduate degrees and received her Masters of Education from Clemson University. Her teaching career spanned over 35 years as she taught in Laurens County, Chesterfield County, and retired from Darlington County School District as a teacher support specialist. Sally was a dedicated and accomplished educator, mentor, and friend who left a lasting impression on so many of her students. She will always be remembered as a truly caring teacher who possessed the ability to make learning fun and creative.

Mrs. Adams was a faithful member of Jefferson Baptist Church, where she served on the social committee and was the former church treasurer. She was currently serving on the Hospice of Chesterfield County Foundation Board. Sally enjoyed crafting and working outdoors. Her greatest passion was being “Mi-Mi” to her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Adams was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Joseph Hinson, Jr., Bobby Hinson, and Richard Hinson.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Carl “Buck” Adams of the home; daughters, Crystal Adams (Rev. Tony) Pope, and Tiffany Adams (Travis) Sanders both of Jefferson, SC; grandchildren, Alexis Pope, Jon Pope, Joseph Pope, Brittain Sanders, and Chloe Sanders; brother, Lawson (Betty Rose) Hinson of Jefferson, SC; sister, Wanda Hinson Neff of Debary, FL; sisters-in-law, Dianne Hinson of Fountain Inn, SC, and Jean Hinson of Jefferson, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Myra Lynn Baker

Myra Lynn Baker, 61, of Pageland, SC died Wednesday, January 20, 2021.  Funeral service was held Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 2PM from the Salem United Methodist Church, Pageland, SC.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.  She was born July 22,1959 in Monroe, NC to the late Dossie Baker and Olivia Miller. James Louis Blakeney

James Louis Blakeney, 77, of Marshville, NC died Saturday, January 23, 2021. A graveside service was held Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 2PM from the Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Lancaster, SC. He was born June 12, 1943 in Chesterfield, SC to the late Eugene Edward Blakeney and Vadie Lee Funderburk Blakeney.  Survivors: wife, Joyce F. Anne Bryan

NEWTON, N.J. – Heaven got a new Organist for their choir. Anne Bryan has moved on to the ultimate music section in the universe. Anne was a woman of many talents. To all who were a part of her life music would be the connection that played its rhythm through our lives. She was a pianist, organist, and teacher. Anne shared her gift of music through those venues as well as her everyday life.  If you entered her home, it was fairly certain that music would be playing somewhere somehow.

Anne Helen Byrd Bryan passed away peacefully on Sunday January 24th, 2021.  She was preceded in death by her parents Amanda Carol Dove and step-father Joseph Mack Baker; husband Bill Bryan; brothers Jim Baker and Peter Baker;  Surviving are her children Laurence (Diana) Bryan of Billings, MO, Melissa (Tim) Mohan of Newton, NJ, step children Carl (Lois) Simpson of Edwardsville, IL, Grant Simpson of Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren Anne Mohan and Gemma Mohan, brother Joseph (Martha) Baker of Charlotte, NC., sister-in-law, Rosalie Baker of Little River, SC, sister-in-law, Pamela Baker of Cheraw, SC, nieces Anna Maria Baker (Craig) Watson, Carolyn (Rich) Northrup and Rebecca Baker, nephews, Mack (Gena) Baker, Jim (Carrie) Baker and Carey Baker. There are also many great-nieces, nephews, cousins, many fellow musicians, students and friends who were all dear to Anne.

At later dates there will be an Internment service at Arlington National Cemetery as well as a time of remembrance and celebration of life in Cheraw, SC.

Joseph Stewart ‘JJ’ Cope Jr.

SOCIETY HILL – Joseph Stewart “JJ” Cope, Jr., 36, of Society Hill died on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 3 PM at Welsh Neck Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing was held from 12 until 5 PM on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Kistler Hardee Funeral Home.
Joseph was born in Chesterfield County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Joseph also worked for many years driving trucks with his dad.
Surviving are his parents, Helen and Joseph Cope; his wife, Amy Larymore; two children, Chelsea (Brycen) Larymore and Eddie Tiller; his sisters, Brooke and Heather; special nephews and niece, Joseph Scott, Israel Scott, Taylor Nivens, Joseph L. Cope and Elijah Jackson; his father-in-law, Heyward Larymore; sister-in-law, Angela “Angelica” (Casey) Whitaker and their children; and special friends, Jessie Gainey and her children and JT Turner.

Betty Helms Harpe

CHERAW – Mrs. Betty Helms Harpe, age 89, entered into rest on Thursday, January 28, 2021. A private family service will be held at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by Pastor Fred McDaniel.

Mrs. Harpe was born April 21, 1931 in Charlotte, NC a daughter of the late Hoyle and Athenae Furr Helms. She was a retired employee of Carolina Packaging and a former employee of Sacony Industries. Following her retirement, Betty enjoyed working at the Country Kitchen making desserts. Mrs. Harpe was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working in her flowers and was known for her green thumb.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harpe was also preceded in death by her brother, Hoyle Helms, Jr.

Survivors include her children, Jerry P. Harpe of Cheraw, SC; Billy R. (Angela) Harpe of Florence, SC, Rhonda (David) Rhyne, and Karen H. Teachy both of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Zachary (Jessica) Harpe, Taylor (Hannah) Harpe, Toby (Summer) Rhyne, Jody (Marcia) Rhyne, Leigh Ann (Jonathan) Perry, and Chris (Caitlin) Teachy; 10 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Helms of Charlotte, NC, Jewel Watson of Chesterfield, SC, and Sue Harpe of Cheraw, SC.

Shannon Marie Laney

CHERAW – Shannon Marie Laney, 48, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Born in Cheraw, SC she was the daughter of Robbie and Karan H. Laney of Cheraw, SC. She taught gymnastics in Rock Hill and Cheraw, SC. She was an avid runner and enjoyed the outdoors.

Surviving is her daughter, Juliana Laney of Cheraw, SC, her parents listed above, grandmother, Carol Harrell, aunts and uncles, Teresa Roller of Manning, SC, Ruth “Tootise” (John) Holmes of Dallas, TX and Sheree (Bob) Elick of Foley, AL.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jonathan Laney.

A funeral service was held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Cheraw First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. There was a private committal service following the service.

Harry Rivers, 68, of Chesterfield, SC died Monday, January 11, 2021. A graveside service was held Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 1PM from the Chesterfield Community Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC. He was born November 21, 1952 in Chesterfield, SC to the late Cecil and Lottie Pegues Rivers. Sara Margaret McDougald Stanton

Sara Margaret McDougald Stanton, 93, died Sunday, January 24, 2021. Born in Marlboro County she was a daughter of the late Clyde D. and Sarah Frances Rainwater McDougald. She was the widow of W.C. Stanton. Growing up she was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where she became a Sunday School teacher and played the organ. Her family was an integral part of the ministry of Pleasant Grove and she always cared deeply for her “church family.” In later years she and her husband became part of another church family at Cheraw First Baptist Church. In that congregation she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the WMU. She was a graduate of Coker University (at age 46). She was a retired second grade school teacher (1974-1989) from Cheraw Primary. Mrs. Stanton was a member of the South Carolina Education Association. She was a member of the Cheraw Civic League Garden Club which helped establish Centennial Park in Downtown Cheraw. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and yard work. She loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, David Wilson Stanton of Cheraw, SC, Clyde Townsend (Regina) Stanton of Birmingham, AL, Hugh Joyce (Jennie) Stanton of Florence, SC, grandchildren, Michael Stanton, Wilson Stanton, David Stanton, Kate Stanton, sisters, Geneva McGilvray of Moultrie, GA, Laura Ann (Charles) Haley of Cheraw, SC, Sue Frances Lee of Cheraw, SC.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, also, a son, Prentiss Kinney Stanton, a grandchild, Alexander Stanton, brothers, Boyce McDougald, Richard Edwin McDougald and Gene Clyde McDougald.

Mrs. Stanton will lie in repose 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Kiser Funeral Home, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service was held 2:00PM, Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Cheraw First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial was in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Dianne Oliver Thompson

JEFFERSON – Ms. Dianne Oliver Thompson, age 65, entered into rest on Saturday, January 30, 2020. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Reverend Marvin Griggs. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.

Ms. Thompson was born November 10, 1955 in North Carolina, a daughter of the late Hazel “Sam” and Annie Mae Rollings Oliver. She was a seamstress and worked for many years in the textile industry. Dianne valued her friendships and cherished the time spent with friends. She also enjoyed spending her days fishing at any creek bank she could find. Most of all, Dianne loved her grandchildren and watching them grow.

In addition to her parents, Dianne is preceded in death by her sister Elaine Oliver Freeman.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Faile of Kershaw, SC and Donald (Sharon) Thompson of Pageland, SC; grandchildren, Emily Thompson of Pageland, SC, Austin, Trenton, Ethan, Brooklynn, Caelyn, and Morgan Faile all of Kershaw, SC; companion of many years, Carol Griggs of Jefferson, SC; step-sons, Corey Griggs of Charleston, SC and Joey Griggs of Jefferson, SC; brother, Lynn (Donna) Oliver of Pageland, SC; special friend, Devin Raines of Hartsville, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia Threatt

Patricia Threatt, 58, of Pageland, SC died Sunday, January 24, 2021.  A graveside service was held on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 2PM from the Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Lancaster, SC. She was born March 17, 1962 in Pageland, SC to the late James and Elizabeth Funderburk. Survivors: husband, Deacon Jerry Threatt; children, Canita (Cypheus) Bunton, Carla Threatt of Columbia, SC, Christopher Threatt and Patrick Threatt of the home; sisters, Beverly Blakeney, Barbara (George) Blakeney, Louvenia (Dennis) Threatt, Pageland, SC and Katherine (Robert) Watts, Lancaster, SC; brother, Pete (Vounder) Funderburk, Wingate NC and 8 grandchildren.  Services were rendered by Flemming Funerals-Pageland.
